Doing a hydroboost swap while my motor is pulled. The only reason i need vacuum is for the ac controls. I will be eliminating the coffee can as well as the little vacuum box on the outside of the a/c box. Also the adapter block that used to split everything and bolt to the firewall.

my ? is with a dodge vacuum pump (or an pump for that matter) and the appropriate hose running straight from the pump to the a/c controls will it claps anything? Is there any restrictions or anything in any of the stuff i am taking off? Or will the pump only suck so much and just stop? Thanks

2nd ? can you get the brake pedal out without taking the dash apart and dropping that huge bracket?

So your saying you don't have cruise control... Thats what the large tomato can on the drivers side fender well is for. It stores vacuum like a pressure tank stores pressure. But yes.. any vacuum pump will operate the vents and defroster.. Sorry but yes.. you have to remove the complete under dash bracket to change the brake peddle. It requires the master cylinder and clutch cylinder to be removed too. This a big job too. The auto trans brake peddle bore is smaller than the standard brake peddle bore.

NO Gary this one your not correct on, unless it's a 92up model truck, you can leave the Clutch MC installed and bolted to the firewall, though you will have to pop the clutch pushrod off the lever with the pin..

HOWEVER SINCE YOUR IN FOR THIS PENNY..NOW IS THE PERFECT TIME TO ADD THE PLATE THAT JASON Freebird01 sells...

..Ask me how I know, and how freakin many times I have done that with the plate install...go ahead..ask..too freakin many that's how many! The last time was for just this reason...swap the brake pedal for a hydro boost pedal and I left the clutch installed.

You'll already have the MC off the vacuum booster and still on brake lines, unless your swapping the MC too, which I recommend;Sweet

Yes the whole aluminum bracket must come out to do this....I think I wrote out the procedure someplace here...

Cummins use that dual vaccum pump/powersteering pump driven off of a gear though (actually a pretty badass dessign)

right on guys thanks  Iv got a little bigger project going on with the truck than pulling that bracket out. Really doesnt hurt my feelings was just curious if i could get the pedal out without doing it.

correct. you can get the gear and adapter to eliminate the vac pump and bolt the PS pump to the timing cover but i think the PS res would hit my york pump and bracket so ill just leave it as is

So i dont have to worry about my vac pump sucking to much or anything? how does it not create too much vacuum? just curious

The vacuum pump should create the same vacuum across the whole vacuum system. I wouldnt think you would have area's of high vacuum, and area's of low vacuum, but the same everywhere. So with that logic, you could hook it up to any part of the system and it would pull the same vacuum as before, and since those lines and stuff have already been exposed to it previously, it should be perfectly fine.

Thats what I'm thinking?

Wow.. I felt from all the peddles I have pulled the standard brake peddle needed to come out and the complete bracket assembly.. Live and learn I guess...
As for vacuum. Its not like pressure where you can increase till things blow apart. Vacuum will only reach about 29 inches of mercury here on earth. Space you can get about 1 tenth inch more. Its called absolute vacuum in space.. We can't pull that much on the planet but many "think" they can....

To switch over to hydraboost you have to swap the brake pedal mounting bracket too?

Short answer NOPE but.....its easiest to swap complete pedal asseblies if they are alike...auto to auto or manual to manual.

The brake pedal is actually the only part you have to swap due to the fact the pin on the pedal is up higher on the hydro boost pedal arm than the vacuum one.

there is no alternate brake pedal assembly for our 92-96(97) trucks.
we're stuck with increased brake pedal effort after swapping to hydro.
iv just gotten into the habit of using both feet.:(

For the vacuum pump. I run the electric pump out of a Powerstroke super duty.
i got that pump for mine too.dunno why i haven't installed that yet and ditched the stocker.i forgot about it lol.

Fyi on that little manifold on the passenger side firewall. It has jets/orifices cast into the smaller ports. This (I'm assuming) keeps the a/c, heater etc controls from slamming open and closed. No problem eliminate the manifold when switching pumps, but I would add a small jet/orifice to your new plumbing ;Sweet
