So what did you do with your truck today?

Old Goat, The engine has been running a bit longer than that. The 6.9 cracked the main web at the end of July 2021. It took me until May of 2022 to get it rebuilt and back in the truck. About 20,000 miles on it since then. Time flies when you are having fun.

JF, I did retorque, and it may yet prove to be a head gasket. We will see.

Engine is coming out tonight. I will pull the heads and see what is going on. Junkyard 7.3 block bored 0.020 over, so wouldn't surprise me at all to find a pin hole or crack in the #8 wall. I placed an order with CDD for a 90 cc pump and gasket kit earlier this morning. The old pump just couldn't keep up with the turbo and beefed up cam, so I might as well use this opportunity to improve it a bit more. I am also going to throw the heads up on the mill, drill out the coolant holes, and stuff some core plugs in there, replace the Mahle head bolts with the ARP studs I got 9 months after engine was back on the road, and do a few other little things while I have it out.
.....wait a minute.....this isn't a tragedy! It was the opportunity you were waiting on! You sir are slick.

That's cool. It's the first mention that I've seen of anyone planning to do this. Please let us know how big of holes and plugs you end up with. I'm not planning on doing this, but it certainly would be worth seeing just to satisfy my curiosity.

Hey, I tell you what I did with my truck...... you won't believe this, but I actually put diesel fuel in it! I meant to fill it up yesterday afternoon when I got home, but forgot to. I was distracted by my parts being there for KITT. So on my way to work this morning I realized I was whoa low on fuel, so yeah, I put about 5gal of that overpriced nonlubricating mess in my tank........ yuck......

You won't believe this either, but I meant to fill my rear tank while I was in town today, and I forgot to put any diesel fuel in it :p

I also checked the oil, and was pleased to see that it was still just below the full mark, about where it was when I fixed the turbo pedestal leak. It's amazing how much oil here a drip, there a drip, everywhere a drip drip adds up to...

The joke is that I don't run on diesel, I run exclusively (much to the chagrin of some) on waste oil.

Did some more wastegate tuning. Shortened the actuator rod as short as it'll go, and still only got between 11 and 12 PSI, so I I added the assistance of a spring from a lawnmower governor. This got me up to 13ish PSI and I think i'll call that good for now until I see how it runs with a load behind it.

What is your setup (which turbo, pump, engine)?

I added a factory turbo to my 7.3, then replaced the worn-out turbo with a CDD Stage 1. Stock pump turned up 2 flats. I found that the wastegate would also start to open prematurely even after shortening the rod, and limit the total boost as well.

With the line disconnected AND the lever wired shut, I have no problem achieving 12 psi which is all I want to run on an otherwise stock IDI without studs. It's fuel-limited so won't go any higher anyway.

I’ve got a wastegated banks sidewinder in an ‘88 7.3 with an unknown age reman pump turned up. With the wastegate unplugged I’ll get 18ish PSI easy, but that’s a bit too risky for me without head studs, hence me trying to tune the wastegate. I was shooting for 14ish PSI, but the banks wastegate just isn’t capable of that.

I guess the Sidewinders must be one step better than the stock ATS/Ford units. My setup even before charge air cooling has never been over 16psi. I haven't wired anything shut either, for fear of lifting a head. With CAC, I max out around 14-15psi...my unplugged waste gate starts to open by 12psi it seems.
I wish I saw 10psi at 1800rpms like you! That'd be nice. I get little pulling power below 2k, better at 2200rpm. No matter what the timing is set to. But everything, including low-end torque, is better with CAC. I've been really amazed with how well it works.

After further review, I think I was imagining the 10PSI at 1800. In reality I’m seeing more like 7. Still can’t complain about that though.

I think the sidewinders are just a smaller turbo, so you get more psi, and faster spool up, but higher RPM and PSI you get high drive pressures and risk overrunning the turbo.

A few years back, I installed LED lights in the upgraded lights from LMC Truck/Bronco Graveyard in the Blue Truck. One bulb was bad from the start. The high beam worked fine, but the low beam wasn't very bright and the light beam was out of adjustment. I adjusted the light so that the high beam was in line with the other side. The low beam, what there was of it, was shining pretty high. Tonight, I put in new bulbs. When I pulled out the bad bulb, I left it plugged in and turned on the lights. Maybe 1/3 of the LEDs lit up and they weren't shining very bright. I replaced them with a pair of Auxbeam F15 series H4 LEDs. Without any four letter words, I'll just say that I wholeheartedly agree with the reviews that said that they almost didn't need their high beams anymore. I actually feel like I should point my headlights down little bit more than they are now. I LOVE these bulbs! I got these on Amazon for a grand total of $43.19 because one seller had them for $10 off. I have two more pairs in my cart waiting for this coming payday Friday. Needless to say, the Ex Wife will be running one pair in the Aussies lights that I already have for it.

How are they if you stand in front of your truck from 40 feet away? Maybe crouching down to just above the cut-off point. I've found LED's to scatter light all over and be really obnoxious to other drivers. But I'm all for the tech when they can make it work in an existing housing!

I don't know. It was the first time that I had them installed. I do know that they're bright enough that they'll annoy me. I'm a jerk. I figure that if they're going to blind me, I'm going to blind them back. That's at least half of the point of me running LEDs in the first place.
