Power loss?

I have a 1994 7.3 with factory turbo. Added a hypermax intercooler. I feel like I have a huge loss of power (not because of the hypermax). I am basically flooring it and my truck maintains a speed of 65mph with rpms of about 3k when towing my 18ft boat. Is this normal? Do these things really not have much power? I just had the transmission and engine rebuilt and its the same result. I won't even think about pulling a travel trailer with it.

What transmission do you jave because my 86 f350 with a t 19 trans and its gearing I'm at 3 k rpm at 65 but you should notbe in a 94 unless your gears are really low

Did it lose power after some work was done to it? Also make sure that you are getting full throttle travel inside the cab.

Its the same before and after. The mechanic did recommended to change out the injectors but pretty much it

at what point during your ownership of the truck did it "lose" power?

I bought the truck knowing nothing of idi. I hooked it up to a 18ft travel trailer and hit the road. It wasn't till we were in the hillside Valley of Texas when I had the pedal floored andnoticed we were barely moving. I dont know if that's just how an IDI is or somethin isn't right. I had the engine rebuilt along with the transmission. Added a hypermax intercooler and r&d intake. It prefomes the same when towing my 18ft, fiberglass boat. Only difference is, it tops as 65mph since there are no hills where I live.

3k at 65 seems a bit high for an E4OD. My old 86 with 4.10s and a C6 would be spinning those rpms at 65ish and would be on the governor by 70mph. Does it run well other than being low on power? Did anyone ever check and adjust the timing with a meter? What kind of boost numbers are you seeing? What about egts? Was the fuel ever turned up or the torque screw adjusted? Truth is the IDI isn't going to run with the brand new trucks, but it sounds like it could be running better than it is.

My next step is to install some gages to see where I'm att with EGTs and boost. Not sure about timing or fuel injection

I am sure gauges will show whats up. Power wise sounds like an NA truck......probably has NA calibrated injection pump.

With my truck (turbo, intercooled, and e40d) never had any trouble pulling overdrive at any weight on flat ground.

3k at 65 in drive or overdrive ?
,4.10 rear end?

If you added a intercooler and lost power then it would seem you have a boost leak, and if you have black smoke at 3k something is off , the turbo should be spool’d and burning up that extra fuel

You Need some EGT readings but if your motor is studded you need more boost/fuel especially if you have an intercooler already , build motor and trans, (fine tunning )

my E40D with a baby banks non wastegated and non intercooled does 65 on the flat with a 5k trailer

What's your exhaust look like when flooring it? Definitely sounding like and timing/fueling issue, especially if the engine was rebuilt.
