I'm about to lose my mind. Installing the torque converter into my 4r100 that is being mated up to my IDI and I'm psyching myself out. I have read that the nose of the torque converter is supposed to be flush with the housing. Mine is about a 16th past flush. When rotating it to drop into the pump I can only get it to drop twice. I am used to a GM trans where it drops three times. I have already unbolted the transmission and tried to reposition the torque converter once already. When I install a torque converter transmission combo on GM I have to slide the torque converter into the flexplate. On this one it seems that the torque converter bolts slide into the flexplate as the transmission slides up to the block. Am I losing my mind

With the case bolted up does the torque converter still turn freely before bolting it up? If so believe it is installed correct. If not well you have problems. Have installed a lot of transmission over the years and most you do pull them forward some, but have done an 4r100. Main thing is they have to turn freely.

What do you mean? The torque converter has studs so no it doesn't spin.

My bad was thinking of a different transmission. But it should move just a little back and forth and wiggle a little in the holes.

Nope not after I tightened it down all the way. Not my first tc install. Just first on the 4r. I have spun and wiggled the **** out of it and that's as far as she goes

You should hear three clunks, do you hear the pump rotate when you rotate the torque converter? I would pull it back out and try again.

Already got it out now. Definitely not three clunks which is what I'm used to hearing. Inspecting for damage right now Don't see any however I have noticed that the inner input shaft comes out so I wonder if that wasn't seated all the way

The first picture is the torque converter on trying to install which is for a 92 E4od but also crosses over for a 99 4R100. The second picture is of the converter that came with the transmission. Will this be an issue? I don't think it would

Put the 4R converter on and see how far back it seats, then compare it to where the e4 converter sits.

Need a bigger hammer? I know it is not fun when things just don't do what they are suppose to, Have had that when installing a trany, fight and fight to get it lined up, most of the time just had to walk away and come back later to have it just fall right in.

Talk to a tranny guy and we have come to the conclusion that the pump fingers are no longer centered around the stater shaft and so I have to align them before I can put the converter in. So I am off to get a new seal and then a line the pump fingers

I hope you didn't damage the pump when you bolted the transmission up tight to the block with no free play.
