I have been doing a lot of work to my truck here recently and was going to service my car/see if I need a new one. The only problem is I can’t get it out. I take the bolts off, bull it away from the intake and try to pull it up while moving it side to side. It will not come out. Any tips or tricks?

I think on my 7.3 I used a small pry bar and GENTLY pried against the valve cover while slowly working it out. The trick is not to kill the grommet or knock anything else in there when it does give

I’m thinking I may just buy a new CDR and grommet. Just in case it does break.

You are going to need a new grommet no matter what; it's so hard by now it's not going to be sealing well at all.

Also, I personally wouldn't worry about the CDR - the CDR is supposed to be wide open 99% of the time; the only time it closes is if you somehow manage to clog the air filter badly enough that the engine starts drawing a significant vacuum against the crankcase, at which point the CDR closes preventing a runaway(*).
These CDRs also fail open, not closed, so as long as you change your air filter on a regular basis you'll be fine.

(* Note that I'm still not sure you'd get a runaway even in this case - I sure haven't heard of it ever happening. The only way I've gotten a runaway IDI was with literally half a can of lightweight ether lubricant[after the ether evaporated into the intake] soaking the air cleaner. Once started and revved up to like 3K, it finally started pulling enough in to actually just burn that. Revved to like 4K+ for a good 15 seconds before coming back down to idle).

There was a member here that had his return for a bypass filter too close to his cdr on the valve cover and started getting a run away at wot

I only wish that some one would come up with a CDR relocation kit.;Poke I know. I may be kind of a jerk about this, but I'm just about to the point that I'm looking to buy it so I can install my turbo.

I’m not making a kit to relocate the cdr since the factory turbo valve covers do that really well, so I would just use those if that’s all you need I would just pick up a factory turbo set, I have a set here too. My kit will be to replace the cdr with a catch can with all stainless braided lines. Here’s what the covers ended up looking like after ceramic coating and welding

I thought you made a post about a CDR relocation kit. I guess I was wrong about that one. Sorry. It must have been a CDR elimination kit.
