I have been chasing a fairly good oil leak since I did my rebuild. Couldn't pinpoint it at first, as it was probably coming from multiple places. I was getting oil driipping down the back of the starter and oil pan. Decided to go back in and reseal the top of motor just to cover all bases. The leak was less but still there. Thought maybe rear main, but after pulling inspection cover youj could see where the oil comes down and run across then down back of pan. Long story short, it appears I have an oil leak coming from under IP. It looks like it starts towards the back ,but could just be where it ends up dripping down. I'm assuming it starts where the pump mounts to the timing gear cover. I'll try to get some pics up. Thanks everybody

I should probably have asked the question what would cause this and how do I fix it. duh.

I honestly cant remember. If not , it means I probably damaged the o-ring. Only one way to find out!

I have an install kit left I think, and what kind of sealer did you use on the gear hsg?

A brief update: I was able to source an IP install kit from Russ(typ4) today. Pulled the IP after work and found a trail of oil from the front of the IP where it mounts to the cover to about half way back on the pump where it then dripped down to the valley pan. While I have the pump off going to reseal the timing gear cover as well, just in case. For sure I had a good oil leak between the cover and the pump so the new o-ring for the IP should take care of that. Ill get everything back together this weekend and see how I did. Thank you Russ!

Got everything buttoned up, new o-ring on IP and resealed gear housing. Ran it a bit on Sunday. Leak still there unfortunately. Short of replacing the gear housing what is my next step. Originally I thought the leak could be from high crankcase pressure but I'm running a 1" line vented from the gear housing to a catch can vented through the exhaust. No CDR. I made sure the o-ring was properly lubricated prior to install of the IP. Any help is appreciated. Thanks all!

Another update: Decided to to pull the IP AGAIN. Since it didn't seem to be the o-ring on the pump itself that was leaking I was sure there had to be a crack or something in the gear housing. I have an extra so I was just going to swap them out if I found nothing. Cover all the bases. Upon further inspection of the housing on the truck I happened to notice one of the studs the IP mounts on was loose! I was able to remove it from the housing with my fingers. The hole goes all the way through so for sure if its loose you would get oil leaking from it. The other two studs seem tight. So a couple of questions: Do I use the original housing and put some locktite on the stud that was loose? Or swap out the housings ? One thing is sure, I've got a great system now for removal of the IP.

I would swap housing, make sure the studs are tight. If they are loose, remove them and clean threads, put a little rtv on the threads and reinstall them using jamb nut to tighten.

Thanks Dieselcrawler! I never realized those studs could back out and cause a leak. I checked the ones on the spare housing and they are all tight. For now I'm going to RTV the stud on the original housing that was loose and see how that goes. I'm just curious if that works. I know have a spare if not. Update to come
