I wanted to see if making a truck camper stand would be safe. It would have to be wood. On the truck it is too high to fit in garage and I need to repair the leaks. All these storms are killing me and I'm almost out of tarps

Lol on the tarps - been there done that. They gets real pricey the thicker and larger you go!

Yes on the stand out of wood. You can hold anything out of wooden frame. Look at our houses :)

On an important note though as I don’t know how capable you are with a hammer and nails, just make sure the structure is stout and strong. Take pictures when you’re done [emoji736]

I would say, I think she's fairly capable. Lol

On a side note, what are you doing over here? Lol

It sounds as though you want to drop the camper on a stand and roll it into the garage. Is that right? That would be more difficult than what I made. I've seen rolling camper stands made out of angle iron, basically a 4 sided frame on wheels, pretty stout wheels. Getting all four sides even is a problem.

The stands I made are easier, but they aren't moveable once I drop the camper on them. I have one at either end of the camper floor area. I'll attach a picture of one. I made them tall enough that I wouldn't have to move the camper vertically too much.

OP per 79jasper lol. This is how I did mine years ago. Not drawn to scale. Winch is drawn above to let you know its whereabouts.

I made the stand for an actual dump box that went on my truck (on and off and swapped out with the flatbed).

The stand had rollers on them. I was able to slide it on and off the truck easily with the winch.

I’m making another one soon for my camper (glorified moving truck with winders installed etc), larger dump body, bus box and a stretched out truck bed.

Yes it would have to roll into garage after getting off truck.

I wonder if I could get it into the flatbed trailer on a stand....

I definitely did not save any money trying to use tarps instead of using a stand!! [emoji24][emoji24]

Thank you for all,of the ideas. I'm going to definitely be using a combo.

Did I mention the 90 degree hill going into garage? [emoji19]

A trailer... that's always a possibility. The trick might be getting it onto the trailer. The trailer wheels might be too wide for the camper jacks. If the wheels won't fit between the jacks it's going to be very difficult.

To give you an idea. You would want a shorter trailer, of course. Now, is there any other way we can help you spend your money?

You are a genius! The trailer I have may not work for that exact reason :( but I might try after the two feet of snow supposedly hitting us tomorrow.

The issue would be camper sitting on the back of the trailer. I don't know that I trust this scenario either way as the hitch would be under too much strain as it is... And the insane hill...

Although if I use that photo as a reference and I could convince my husband to get us (me) a 4 person UTV to go in front of trailer (for balance purposes!)....

Also the camper has a rear overhang. So it has to be on the back. But I wonder if I could find a trailer on Craigslist I could modify...

@Danielle,

I've done a similar thing. I have a 4x8 flatbed trailer, like this:

My oldest son picked up a free 8 foot truck camper......and paid way to much at that price.......

It was stored at his work and a wind gust pushed it over, folding the jacks under it..... but still almost upright......

We were able to jack it up, and put it on the trailer. It fit well, and with yours, the overhang would hang off the back.

It was even hauled a few miles, and ended up here:

Yes, that was the plan....... you can see how rotten it was.......

Plus, having a little trailer around is handy. It's what I use to haul my tractors with, and gets used around the house.

You keep reading my mind haha. I found one like this on CL. Going to look at it after snowmageddon.

Mine had some... Issues. The rot has been replaced, new 110 wiring. Reframed a wall... But even in its worst shape, last year it gave me the confidence and sense of security to take my girls camping alone and share something I love so much.

And my husband can stay home, so he is happy also haha

What does weigh? You said the ground is steep but is it paved? Could you go with some 4x4’s tying together some furniture dollies? How low will the jacks let it down?

The jacks only allow it to go slightly lower than truck height, but I bet I could do a frame on dollies (I have a million of them from transporting my scissor lift!)...

We got half inch of snow instead of 2ft. Going to go see what I can come up with yay!
