My /opinion/ is 16 or 16.5 rims, and I far prefer good solid steel rims over aluminium/mag wheels.
Why? Steel(at least the decently heavy ones in stock-ish rims) is going to be stronger and less likely to crack when you hit a curb or something.
I've seen plenty of pictures of mag wheels cracking large chunks off when hitting a curb or pothole or something; I've personally run a trailer with steel wheels into a curb at just the right angle that the lip bent.
Because it was steel, I grabbed my sledgehammer and bashed it back until it held air again(didn't have a spare with me). Drove it a good thousand miles before I finally replaced it, with no issues!
On tire size, more rubber = more cushion. Stock size 235s have plenty of sidewall for most things you can do, and the only reason for bigger tires is off-roading. In which case, you want the extra sidewall height for going over rocks!
One of these days, I'm going to mess around with getting some hmmvw tires on one of my trucks - I've got some 36" bias-ply tires sitting around and a set of 16.5" rims for them.
I put a pair on the /rear/ of one truck for 60 miles or so, and on the rear it cleared just fine. Would probably have not had enough clearance if I'd had anything in the bed though.
Not sure what I'll have to do for the front, but it would be a fun mod.
