Camper looks good! As long as you stay under your axle weights on the door tag you should be good. Have to weigh front rear and combined. At least that's what the Po Po will do most likely. [emoji6]

You really want to bring your ac machine? I thought you were joking.

I would not add that to the rear with an extended carrier. That is a LOT of leverage off the back concentrated on the receiver.

Even in the front I could see it blocking the radiator and that is not good news either hauling in the summer time.

It might be best to keep it safe in the shop.

I'd suggest keeping the weight as light as possible. That looks to be a 10.5 foot camper, on an F-350 single rear wheel long box. No matter what you do to the suspension, that is a lot of weight. Your handling will be a bit squirrley, and your brakes marginal. Drive very carefully. I have my camper on a dually, and find it near the limits.

Do I see stake pocket tie downs? I have a set floating around my garage. They came with the camper when I bought it, and survived the drive home, but were replace very soon afterward. I would suggest nothing short of TorqueLift tiedowns---camper direct to the frame.

Other than that, have a great time. I'm sure you will.

those stake pocket tiedowns were never meant for the newer sheet metal. might want to check with your local RV dealer and make sure they are still a legal means of securement. if you ever have to make an emergency manuevre the tiedowns will rip the bed of the truck apart.

kind of like using a dog chain for trailer safety chains.

that big camper needs to be secured to the frame.

I hauled heavy campers on single wheels but they were 33/12.5/16.5 10ply and had a set of supplemental air bags in the rear. it wasn't too bad but when we retired that truck we went to a dually and it was much more stable.

The pocket tie downs are, indeed, garbage!
This truck had a 5th wheel so my dad made a big bracket that bolts into it from the floor, using the 5th wheel holes in the bed.

Now using a frame mount, with the big spring turn buckles.

I really wanted something additional for the very front, but the previous owner only used frame mounts, and he went offroading onto the beach with it every weekend. I would just rather err on the side of "too many" mounts.

On the face of it, through bolting the camper to the truck bed would seem to be the most positive method. Remember, though, that our truck frames will flex, twist, quite a bit. The front end and the rear end do not always remain on the same plane. That is the say, a rear corner can flex 7-9 inches out of line with the front of the truck. Our campers cannot flex that way. That is why the better tie-downs have a spring loaded section. They allow for some twist, though not as much as the truck does. In effect, they allow for some independent movement. Bolting to the truck bed allows for no independent movement. If the truck frame flexes, the camper will want to also.

Over the years I have broken the frame rails on my camper, both sides, at the front eyebolt tie-down connections. I think I have pictures of the damage, and repairs, in "My Photos" link below.

So, even with the best of spring loaded tie-downs, loosen the some if you're going over any kind of rough ground.

Gandalf has what appears to be the tie downs on the front that a cross beam is bolted to the frame and the tie downs are fastened to it.

If you have to fuel up, pick a station that doesn't have a ramp going into it. Flying J and Pilot or most any truck stop have level entrances.

Going into a station with a ramp kinda sideways, the truck will twist.

Next camper will be a class c. Husband is very angry at what's been invested into this one! He wanted to have this money to put towards a new one.

Camper off truck now for alignment. I'll post pictures of the frame mount "tie downs" that I now have once it is back together.

I cannot find my registration so have to go to DMV Monday to get one. Then drop truck off.

I really like having a 5th wheel but campers can be pretty expensive for how much they get used. I got super lucky and got mine for a song a dance from a member here who is a friend.

Otherwise I am still not sure if we would have one.

I see a lot of people talk about being weighed. I was going to ask the junkyard to weigh me with camper on then off. But there's also a weigh station right here, do they allow it?

Otherwise, where does everyone get weighed?
