Article On Waterless Cooling

Caught this article today and thought it may be an applicable option for our IDI's, particulate the 7.3L. Not sure if it has any DCA in it or would be compatible with SCA's or wouldn't require it.

Supposed to be good stuff, until one of your hoses ruptures or water pump fails and dumps $360 worth of coolant all over the place.....BTW this happens to everyone's truck at some point even though people think it won't when using this stuff. Costs about $45 a gallon. I'll stick with fleet charge

But if it doesn't require a pressurized cooling system, then failures would purge very minimal amounts from the system. Hoses wouldn't burst, they'd weep.

Best thing about Evans is you install it and forget it. Getting the water out of the already watered up cooling system can be ruff. But opening the block drains helps plenty. True this stuff runs a zero pressure system so.. You are not going to be blowing off a hose. Best second suggestion will be replace ALL hoses if you use this stuff. It will last us for the life of the engines too. Any cooling system maintenance can be done and saving the expensive coolant is easy. Get a kiddies pool and place that under the radiator to drain and catch ALL of this.

A pressure-less cooling system might not be optimal for a diesel prone to cavitation.

At least in theory; the 13 psi system pressure provides a little more resistance to the flexing of the cylinder walls (the snapping back from which being the cause of cavitation).

Looks like it's just 70% ethylene glycol and some propylene glycol with 20,000ppm of corrosion inhibitors

I would say that since there is no water in evans coolant it will be much more resistant to cavitating. Evans coolant is great problem solver, I use it in my dirtbike so I can billy goat around on slow trails and not boilover.

Same here with my KTM and my truck I bought Evans in 2004 and still have it in all the vehicles, Got the T-shirt!

I read several posts here from a RLDSL who was/is running Evans. It's been a while, but from what I recall it eliminates the cavitation issues altogether, along with other added benefits. RLDSL had a few posts on the stuff, and I was fairly impressed.

I've already repaired most of my coolant system, but not the water pump. If I had that done, I'd definitely consider using Evans.

Sadly I have not seen Robert posting is the last few years. He was out here on vacation one year and I helped him repair his Browney trans shifter. It had gotten locked in gear and needed 2 people to fix it. The rig has 15 forward gear and 5 reverse gears to choose from....
