im slapping the block back together for my twin turbo build.

im really thinking about drilling and tapping the back of the block into the lifter valley for the oil return.

and leaving the stock N/A CDR where it is.

i want something more solid to mount the oil return lines.

any of you see a reason to not do this?

driverside is what im looking at, where theres a casting mark of a circle.

drill and tap 3/4" NPT then T off of that to 2- 1/2" NPT

Twin turbo? Sounds fun. What project is this for? Drilling and tapping the block for oil return sounds fine to me. Will the turbo's be high enough to drain? I know I've heard of guys returning through the transfer pump block off plate or through fittings in the oil pan.

So are you planning to keep the CDR in the valley then? You will still need to block off the intake and reroute that pre-turbo?

ill be making a custom intake, got the flange template at the water jetters.
ill be flipping the CDR around and running it through a catch can then to a RDT.
oil pan may be the way to go.
but the turbos will be ontop of the valve covers.
unless i change my mind.

this is for my M-37 project.
gonna be a closed hood, but i still have alot of room.

this may become a 4wd hotrod instead of a 2wd job, so slinging mud makes me want a hood!

How will you know where to drill the hole? Remember about the water jackets. Honestly I have no idea where the block does not have a water jacket. I suspose "if" you drilled into the water jacket you could thread it and move on but not sure that is a good idea either. I'm betting this drilled block will no longer be a core too.

in the back of the block, opposite of the oil sender/oil feed port, there is a casting that does not have anything to do with coolant.

Doing it that way, your depending on atmosphere pressure to relieve the CC blowby. With the CDR attached to the intake horn or turbo intake, it creates a CDR vacuum to relieve CC pressure. If the RDT is routed into the exhaust at the right angle, it's creates a venturie vacuum that relieves some CC pressure. If the RDT is just left to just exhaust to atmosphere, a high CC pressure may be the results.

this is for my M-37 project.

Does the 7.3 look like it'll fit? I love me some M37, been wanting to build one with a 3-53N/3053A since the 1990s.

soon as my 6 door is done, imma spend a few days and get the suspension done, and install the mock up block.

Can always go into the valve covers if you are putting the turbos up there anyways. :dunno

My plan is through the fuel pump block off but I'm only draining one turbo.

You can tig in some an fittings like a dry sump... I wound could you make a dry sump system for a 7.3idi? That would be cool
