So my "other truck" was low on R12. I saw two connections that had some very old wetness on them so I replaced the o-rings. Pulled vacuum to 26 or 27 inches.. It held great. charged the system and its cold. Now I remove the low side fill line from the dryer and the shrader valve is leaking big. I do all I can to "fix" it. I even try to remove it but it seems stuck in there somehow. I feel it unscrewing well but the body is stuck in the port. Needle nose pliars wont pull it out either. Any idea how to get it out.... I thought the 100 lbs of R12 would blow it out but nope... Its stuck good.. Might be time to replace the dryer but thats gonna suck some money and I just want to sell the rig. It mt trusty 79 C30 chevy camper special that I have driven all over this country. 1 ton 454 9000 lbs gvw with only a factory smog pump on it. No egr valve and factory dual exhaust. Full power too. Bonansa is the style and not many of them around. Just have no need for it. I just can't figure whats keeping the body stuck ini the port on the dryer.... I learned a lesson. Next R12 fill I will replace the schrader valve. I have plenty of R12. Its just tuff wsteing three lbs of it...

I believe those old r12 fittings have a threaded fitting for the hoses to attach. Some have metal caps. Find one of those, add some sealant, and that should work till its time to check or fill it again.

Has anyone else worked on it? There are at least 4 possible shrader valve sizes used in ac work for the sole purpose of confusing things. Is it possible someone jammed an incorrect valve in there?

I know your trying to sell it but a dryer is $20 or so. cheap for no headach, besides after you get it out is a new schader valve going to seal up.

Well all, I have unscrewed the schradre valve and I know its unthreading from the dryer but it just will not come out. Its like something is holding it in. The R12 charge is leaking out so I'm going to drop the completer charge. Remove the dryer and try to figure out whats wrong internally. I probably wil just replace the dryer. I'm usually the only person thats ever worked on the AC but the last recharge I had a leak I could not find so a local shop recharged it after I found what they counted find. It was the inside the cab condenser. I guess I was breathig freon in very smal amounts for a few years. Many years ago the compresser ate itself internally so I had a filter installed in the low pressure return line. Might be time to replace that too...

if you are sure the schader valve has unthreaded from it bore, it might be hung up on the o-ring seal. I have removed them with a o-ring pick. You will have to modify the tip and then you can reach in and hook the schrader under the top of the body by the stem.

Well, I removed the dryer and took it to the ca only shop I have been dealing with for over 25 years. I figured I was going to buy another dryer but he had the modified pick tools. He tired but went to get other tools and I dug in and finally got the thing out. Still no reason for it sticking in the port. As it was off the truck I could see the threaded part not engaged to the port threads. So yes, it was completely unthreaded but stuck somehow. I got a new valve and am now pulling vacuum. Will add one can of R12 and check. Might just remove the vacuum charge hose from the fitting and see if its leaking or sucking cause its going to have vacuum on it...

the wrong schrader valve probably got installed and the cap sealed it up enough to keep the leak slow enough to not notice it. good to hear you got it fixed, good luck with the sale.

That's kind of what I was thinking . Sure seems like a wrong valve in there. Those caps can hold a lot more than most folks realize ..

I wouldnt bother replacing the line filter. it should be good for the duration. If the thing managed to clog up, only way that would happen is if the system wasnt flushed before being put back together.

Filter has been in the line for about 15 years. Just have no way to know if its got any junk in it. Its in the return line to the compresser and thats down stream from the orface valve... I just finished the vacuum. Tested it with spit on my finger... No sucking....:sly:love::angel: So added one can and removed the hose.. Tested with spit on finger again and nothing leaking out so finished adding two more cans. Icey cold air in the cab. License, ins and a sign and away it goes... Probbaly will drive it around town for display with the FOR SALE signs in the rear window.....

Why replace the dryer. It still had pressure from many years of no use. the system was dry with the small amount of pressure in it.

prior to about 92,,,the hoses for air conditioning,,,D I D N T, have a nylon liner... ir you take a slice of the older hoses,,you will find,,there is porosity in rubber.....it wont leak freon,,but since your system, should be to to absolute vacuum,,it means the inside of the system,,is D R Y!!! soooo, air, with moisture,,will go thru the holes in that rubber slowly!! older manuals,,in dealerships,,said that a system should be sucked down,,and redone,,every third year..not because of leaks,,but because the dry system,,would pull moisture thru the hoses. serious.....i just bought,,a 95 ******,,and the reciever dryer,,was loaded with moisture!! dont know why?? i pulled it down,,and reloaded the system,,only to have the dessicant bag blow!! how did i know?? the high side pressure went berserk!! gots a new dryer, redid it,,works great now!! same thing on a 96 passat i own.. ive now had, three cars,,that the bag blew,,and had to put a new dryer on.....the old dessicant,,was like oil dry,,in that it would absorb moisture, and break down.. the newer is more like,,the moisture, sticks to the outside of the pellets.. also,,,,,,,,,,,,,,believe it or not,,moisture can also slowly come in,,thru the shaft seal of the compressor!!! thats why,,auto co's,,have been trying to figure out,,how to make it like a refrig system in the house,,sealed!! but the logistics of current and amps,,are overwhelming
