I finally got around to putting my electric fuel pump on my pickup. HOLY POWER GAIN BATMAN!
When I did the top end of this motor last fall, I did slap a new Airtex lift pump on this thing (yes, I now know Airtex sucks) Anyway, tonight I spent about 2 hrs and a few beers slapping the electric pump & pressure regulator on the pickup. One sure has to love the air purging of an electric fuel pump vs. mechanical pump.
Pump fired, the starter spun for maybe 3 seconds, and she fired right up. Try that with a mechanical pump after having return lines removed, and all fuel lines at the engine!
Anyway, on the test drive I was stunned at the power gain. Boost comes on faster and harder without a doubt. Prior to the electric pump I was maxed out at around 15-16psi unloaded, and 1100 degrees EGT temp. Now? Well after I warmed up the IDI, she pegged 20 psi before I realized it, and EGTs slid past 1300 FAST. Theres NO DOUBT I gained HP and low end torque from the switch!
Anyway, nothing important, except to say if you've been on the fence to go Electric Fuel pump; DO IT! You'll be super pleased you did!
BTW, here's the pump I'm using: http://turbowerx.com/Scavenge_Pumps/Base-Model_Pump/Base-Model_Pump.html Since some of the more traditional pumps used by members here are not very compatible w/ WMO blends; I thought I'd give this guy a whirl.

I mainly picked the pump for this application figuring that if it can pump heavy oil all day long at high pressures; it can certainly handle pumping WMO blends thru my IDI
