Although mine is a standard-cab, I have seen more 4-door HI-BOYs around here than standard-cabs.
if there is a lot of true 4 door hiboys and they are cheap buy them cuz they are rare. Restore them and sell them make some money on it

Well did'nt this turn into a ******* contest? Anyway as stated like 50 times now, no factory lift. The factory installed 4" rear block will be found under every single FACTORY 67-77.5 f-250 4wd, thats just how it was. The block is simply there to componsate for the spring hight "same springs as under a 2wd f-350, not 2wd f-250 wich already had the 3" rear springs starting in 1973. So with the rear springs coming from fords 1-ton 2wd parts bin they needed the factory block to make the truck sit level.. Just like under any 80's-90's ttruck, the rear springs are the same as a 2wd with a block to make up the diferance. Now that you know the truth, you can tell the next "factory lift kit guy" that he's wrong and explain the truth.. Not taking any stabs at anybody, just trying to show the facts. Thats how you learn, i was'nt born knowing this stuff i had to learn it...

Now on a new note i hope. Truck looks great, and will make an awsome project, i love the old 73-79 fords and hope to have a restored highboy myself one day.. Have you had any luck finding a bed for it, took me a year to find a decant one. Oh and take a good look at the top of the roof around the windsheild and under the seal before you dig your heels in. These trucks tend to rott around there and can be a nightmare, from thr one pic it looks good thou.. thanks

x2 on the windshield rot. seen many of them rotted up there.

Diesel_brad did an excellent thread on the 78 or 79 f-150 he did for a friend. not the same as urs but close and VERY detailed. just something to read through...not sure if its entire thing is posted here or on FTE.

Mine has power-steering PLUS a big hydraulic cylinder mounted steering-stabilizer fashion that is plumbed into the power-steering.

Someone called it "ram-assist". :dunno
Yes it is called ram assist, no pre 77.5 higboy has real power steering. They use manual worm gear steering boxes and have a ram mounted to the steering linkage to assist steering.. Same setup as on the ond pre-73 musrangs and such, and an uncommom option on 67-72 Trucks most were full manual steering...

Ya my buddy put a dodge steering box on his with little fab work.. The power assist and worm gear box are not ideal for todays driving, plus the power assist ram's are notorise for leaking amd wearing out fast..

Well did'nt this turn into a ******* contest?
Seems all too common these days.

May I make a suggestion?

I don't know who's wrong or who's right in this, but (and this goes for both sides), if you can find and post a reputable source to back up your claims, IMHO you'll be far ahead. All of this "that's the way it is because that's what I said" doesn't really advance the debate any, and being able to cite support for your position would really help matters IMHO. And, as someone already pointed out, since it's so easily edited by the general public, WIkipedia doesn't count. I still remember reading the Wikipedia entry on Machiavelli a few years back and seeing that someone had edited it to make it about ******** LOL

I don't have a proverbial dog in this hunt, but thought that I'd throw that out there...may help things, in this thread and in others. Again, I'm not targeting this at any one person (and, in fact, this is partially a result of things posted on other threads), but it's something that I think would help the board as a whole in the future...

Thanks ;Sweet
