MURPHY IS A HUGE TOOL!!!!

Well, there is good news and bad news with the crew cab project. The good news is the 6.9 roared to life again last night and ran great! The bad news is the ZF5 has the dreaded won't shift into reverse crap and has to come out for a rebuild!!!!. FREAK'N MURPHY'S LAW! Plus the dust cover on the tranny rubs on the flywheel. That's not nearly as annoying as having to pull the transmission!

What a huge disappointment. So close but now so far........... AGAIN! I'll be pulling it out this weekend and will be sending it to the trans rebuilder on Monday. If he can get is done by next Friday, I still may.......and that's a big may......... have time to get it ready for my pre Rally trip to Georgia for a little dirt bike fun.

I'm starting to feel a little bit like Sean (6 Nebraska IDIs) and the luck he's had with his project.

It was an unknown part. I got it out of the '91 F350 460 gasser parts truck. I bought that truck several years ago just for the Dana 60. I did the "typ4" mods to the transmission to make is work behind the IDI. I had this sinking feeling back in the fall that I should have it rebuilt because it's condition was unknown. It shifted through the gears and into reverse very well on the floor of the shop. But, with a load on the transmission (trying to back up), it pops out of reverse or won't go into reverse at all.

I should have trusted my instinct and had the thing rebuilt before putting it in the truck.

As far as the dust cover, I'm certain that it is not a ZF5 cover, but likely a T19 cover. The thing shouldn't be touching the flywheel.

Yeah, South Bend Clutch SMF kit. What did you do to your cover? I'm going to have do something with it, but not until the trans is rebuilt.

Do you have a 2pc dust shield or the one piece 460 unit?...I didn't use one at all with my 460 to IDI swap but I do have the lower cover from a 4spd to put on it if I get off my ass.......I have a T19 SMF in my truck.

Heath, you can relax now. Murphy boarded a plane this morning and landed BACK in Halifax this afternoon. One power steering box, one hydraulic hose that NO shop could make up (except the LAST one we went to) and then us running out of torch gas while trying to cut a couple U bolts off made SURE that Murphy knew he was back.

I want to send him away again as tomorrow I got another floor to weld up (one piece of 1/4" thick mild steel sheet 96"x76") and then I got another tailboard to fix up (3" angle iron 1/4" thick) to weld dowm to tack the floor down to.

You can just IMAGINE the trouble I can get into.....

I bought a shield from someone, it is a one piece. I don't think it is correct.

Well, I can CONFIRM Murphy is back in town.

BOTH springs had busted center bolts (the PO pf the truck decided threaded rod was strong enough for a 20 000 pound front end!!!!?????) and we needed all new spring hanger bushings...A 4 hour job took ALL DAMN DAY!!!

Got the fuel line from Darrin Saturday, but it's the filter to IP line, not the lift pump to filter line. MURPHY!!!

I got the ZF5 pulled on Sunday and I dropped it off at the transmission shop this am. I'm keeping my fingers crossed that he'll be done with it by Friday. If not, then I'll keep plugging away at the detail stuff until I can get the trans back in.

I understand why you want the factory hard line (I think thats what it is) but its pretty easy to just put a hose barb on the lift pump and cut the hard line on its way into the filter, and clamp a hose on that. Thats what I did anyway.
