thanks for the suggestion gatorman but after i test em in the morning i may hit up the dealership early. i want to replace all of them but dang christmas may slow me down. already bought the thermostat. good to see someone kinda close. didnt realize the following of these motors. gonna try to make this one last as long as i can. this is my first diesel without a $500 a month or more payment.

Sounds like you definitely have some bad glow plugs, as the wait to start light should stay on for 10-15 secpnds when its cold. It's been unusually cold here over the last few days (in the teens overnight and early morning) and I noticed the wait to start light was staying on just under 10 seconds, so I tested them all and found just one open circuit GP. You wouldn't believe the difference between 7 and 8 working GPs, easier to start and like one tenth the initial startup smoke.

cewofford i checked the ford dealership also for glowplugs and they were to high for me. i bought 16 new motorcraft beru plugs from autozone for $7.00 a piece. just make sure they are motorcraft first before you buy them, because they tried selling me autolites first and i told them i wanted motorcraft beru and they had them on the shelf.

Thats the best part about OWNING an IDI... You know it's gonna run, and your not paying someone else for the privilege to drive it.

Most guys here with 6.9's would love to convert from push button to the 7.3 glow plug system. I'll make you a deal... I'll trade you your 7.3 system and harness for my 6.9 harness and pushbutton. Deal??? Deal????

Unfortunately, people with a 7.3 GPC that can't make it work, are just low on electrical troubleshooting skills or money. It's a great system, that works great. That's all there is to it. When it doesn't work, it's broke and can be fixed. Just some don't have the time/patience/skills to do it.

well there were three blown glowplugs. i couldnt get my hands on ford glowplugs because it was Saturday afternoon when i tracked it down. I looked long and hard to find something besides autolites. I found a few Bosch and bought three and replaced them. Its a temporary fix cause i need it to run. After replacing them the GPR worked perfect and the truck started perfect. Wait to start light stayed on like it should. Glad i didnt waste my time on the push button cause for now its great. Of course two of them were under the turbo and it was not easy. Dont come down on me too hard for not using fords. I thought Bosch is better than autolites.
