Rear disc brake conversion

I got tired of trying to keep the rear drum brakes adjusted on my truck. It seems if not done every month or two they just would not do the job. Last week I replaced the drum setup with a disc brake conversion kit from the Streetrod Manufacturing Co. http://www.tsmmfg.com/2670.htm
This is really a slick setup. The kit includes brackets,custom rotors and all the hardware to bolt it up. I also purchased a set of rubber brake lines from them,and calipers which are off the shelf Chevy units.
My truck stops much better now, especially when pulling my heavy work trailers. Here are a couple pics. I wish i would have taken more of each step of the installation.

Nice looking setup. Are you using the vacuum booster or the hydroboost setup? Chevy huh.... Really interesting... I may need more information like others when they see how nice this looks..

Thanks. Still using vac booster. I was considering switching to hydroboost before this mod, but really don't seem to need it now...but then again, with 4-wheel disc brakes AND hydroboost this thing would REALLY stop.

My Question is, What about a parking brake? How does that work?

As far as I can see there is no park brake option on your setup?

Oh and for those Chev parts.....just remember they're in the back and it's as always Ford up front!

Looks like a real nice setup, and relatively simple to install by the looks of things.

Ya the site shows the Chev calipers with parking brake option....ya ha $320 no hardware.....um...ya ok.....so lets develop another option.....

I wonder how hard it would be to fit Stooper Dooty brakes? They are the same axles anyways. Just drill the inch bolt pattern between the metric holes.

The only thing that matters on the holes is the rotor. I bet a chevy rotor would work, since they use the same bolt pattern. Matter of fact, a newer chevy rotor and caliper off a truck would probably work and the plates could be made easily enough.

If you guys are interested, we could get a pool going, buy one of those kits and reverse engineer it. If we could get a pool of ten or so of us, I could buy it and put it all on AutoCAD and send everyone drawings which they could then make at home.

That and the inner diameter of the hat for the parking brake, the S/D's use a drum within a disc for the parking brake, and quite frankly, having owned one, I'd rather just not have a parking brake than deal with that setup....

Did you have to do anything in terms of a proportioning valve? I'm curious as to how they compensate for the increase in rear braking. I've seen this (in more extreme cases) make the rear of the vehicle swing out when trail braking while in a turn.

A 80's cadillac caliper will work. It has E-Brake provisions.

Find them at the salvage yard, and buy a rebuild kit. Prolly less than $50.00
