I want to change out the radio in LuLuBell, and I would like to know if anyone has ever used a adaptor kit to install a stereo. I would like to know the brand and model number of the installation kit. My LuLUBelle is a 1989 F-250 with a stock (crappy radio). Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.

I just put in a single din with back up screen into my 90. My truck already had the kit in it. So much better wiring everything at a table and just plugging everything in. Most old truck have the wiring hacked out and it’s a pain to do inside the dash. I always ask crutchfield then go on Amazon or email and buy the parts I need.

Dash Mount kits don't seem required. At least they weren't in the 87 F250, nor 3rd gen E350s. Use the metal cage that comes with the stereo and bend out the tabs closest to the dash panel it goes through.

While not required, it definitely snugs them up better. My radio rattled a lot until I put it in.

Huh. I never noticed a problem. It's above the AC controls on 3rd gen Econoline at the top of the dash, and i go down some pretty bumpy dirt roads.

I use the website for crutchfield or sonic electronix. Personally I use amazon to search stuff only and then go to the direct website to avoid giving bezos anymore Effin money. I wish a sink hole would open up and swallow the billionaires club.

MJ, are you looking only for a head unit, or what are your ultimate goals? You still play CD’s or just BT stuff or only radio?

Can’t Write , I’ve got a stereo with cd player that was a gift. I’m a LEO firearms instructor with bad hearing ,but I’m looking for a better receiver than what came with LuLuBelle.
NERO Thanks for your info.

If you really wanted to get nutty about hearing the radio better, get some sound insulation for the doors and flooring, keep outside noise out and radio noise in. Can be time consuming, but worth it in the grand scheme of things.

It will also help hear the music with bad hearing. I highly recommend following Nero’s advice. Makes a heck of a difference

Totally agree. I do this to every truck i get. Everything comes out, seats carpet, head liner and door panels and it gets sound deadening of some kind. Even the cheap stuff is better than nothing. Id recommend cheap on the floor and better in the doors and roof and clean everything with some alcohol so it sticks better. You will love how the doors shut so nice.

I bought the metra 99-5700 kit for my 89. Here’s the result:

I don’t think I could have just installed this stereo in place of the stock one, I think there was a gap around the outside that this kit fills in. I also added sound deadened and replaced all my weatherstrip. Honestly I can still barely hear the radio, probably because I bought the cheapest one on Amazon.

Weird. I had no problem in the 87 F250. I only used the metal cage. Maybe they are making them less wide now? I do remember it being a bit loose but that's more a problem with the metal cage for that CD unit.

Although I have a cheap newer one without CD that fits in the Econoline hole with just a cage. Pic from the 85 RV. The cage fit in the F250 in the same way.
