pretty new to these DT's
building a 01 F350 with a 96 DT466.
to break the ice/cherry for me, i picked up a "hotrodded" DT360 in pieces.

im gonna put this thing together, as a learning curve, so i know what to do, and most importantly what NOT to do on my 466.

got my book and a buncha parts!

the bad: its tore all the way down.
and i was going to buy a liner kit to start, but this whole covid thing had me deplete my vacation fund for the holidays.

also the pistons and rods ( separated) were not numbered for the intended liner.

the good:
crank was a mirror polish.
zero pitting in the block or sleeves.
the deck and the head were very flat.
the heads showed good seal between the seats and valves.
all valve guides are in decent shape.

i decided to say, screw it and take my chances at throwing this thing back together.
i got the block cleaned up, head back together with new seals and keepers.
and got the crank installed.

one rod had a screwed up wrist pin bushing. but had a complete set of bushings with all the crap i got with the block.
so i pressed in all new bushings...
to kick me in the rear, and realized the bushings needed to be honed to fit the wrist pin.

i tried to hone one out with a small 3 jaw bar hone.
at that point i talked to a few friends to see what equipment i could beg, or borrow, to no avail

just got them back from the shop today, all reconditioned.
bushings now the proper ID, and all rods spec'd out on the big end..

and here i sit. hoping this thing will be ok.

ive got the liners that protrude 0.049-0.052" when clamped down

the step on the liner has been machined for fire rings @ 0.085" from the top of the liner.

fire rings are 0.105" said to squish to .085" after head torque.

the head gasket is 0.060"

now looking for a squished height for the .060 HG.

but everything seems to be right on par!

anyone have any input on this set up?

remember, straight rookie here, and trying to be through

Nice job. I'd be as you, lacking knowledge, however you're looking thorough!
Do the others (on IDI/ IH/ etc. know of this post?

not too much chatter on these old DT's
in a FB group with a few guys, but parts are scarce!
now looking for tool steel dog bones for the 360 roller lifters.
to no avail. also need the idler gear shaft. also no luck :(

hope something will pan out.

got the pistons and rear cover installed. but cant go any further without new lifters or idler gear

Could you make the dog bones yourself? They look pretty basic and you are good at fabrication.

No ideas on what to do for an idler gear. I don’t even know what that is. [emoji23]

i found the idler gear pieces and got them installed.
ive decided that since that its my first DT, i should stray from the modifications on this round.
new lifters on order. more to come, next week.
also took out the 3 pumps i have and gotta decide if i wanna go P or A pump.

Not to be the **** I am......
:flipa
BUT
Yer doing a reciprocating assembly \ liner install with everything mismatched (as near as I could tell) so building a claimer eng on this go round.... Right!?:sorry:
so that makes the low buck \ low mod route a good idea.
Why not do a bench "ballance" on rods\pistons (loose on scale match weights)
And a fish scale drag test on piston to liner interface( with them aligned in situ)
As one trainer in A.I.T. Quipped...
Throw it together and run it till it shows the flaw.:popcorn

if i expected it to be a monster, i absolutely would. but the only decent scale i have, im not using for car parts lol.youve seen the small shat i work with, and i dont wanna upset the calibration lol

this is solely for the purpose of learning the DT line.
already learned alot, and its pretty damn simple.
i just want a complete engine and get it fired up on a stand.

ill upgrade it later after i decide what vehicle it goes into lol

waiting on head bolts now, along with injectors and injection lines.

new lifters are installed, head is on, yet not torqued.

front cover is dry fit, still missing a few bolts.

decided to run the P7100 on this. CS adapter and hub are on order.

almost time to make a run stand for this, and finish it up.

brings the total to $1700 total

got my p pump adapter today, and tried installing, but the hub isnt scribed to set initial timing.
looking on the interwebz to find out how, but at a loss
time to do more research.

also, looks like i gotta either flip my intake, or make a new one

How about a better angle pic and description of clearance issue with intake?

all with the AFC. wont work upside down either.
havnt gotten to the interworkings of the bosh pump yet to see if i can delete or modify that.
but a custom intake would be a fun project.
