This reminds me of the of the 5R55E which is from the C3 heritage. If you remember the mid to late 90s when Ford explorers were popular this trans would shift too early and smoke itself. When you start the vehicle it's default OD on. And the dealer would say to shut the OD off every time you start them unless you were going on a long highway trip.Could it be that simple? D'OH!!!
I'll try it next time I am cruising through town at a steady 35 or 36.
Thank you!
(If it blows up, I'll report back! )
That does explain why those early Explorers always seemed to have transmission problems. Years ago,I had an old timer tell me that you should always take the transmission (automatic) out of OD while in town. He was talking about the AODs, but I would do the same thing with an E4OD.This reminds me of the of the 5R55E which is from the C3 heritage. The e4od is from the C6 heritage but also an early adaption of electronic control like the 5/4R55E

The OD button ONLY turns OD off. (Or back on, if you have used the button to turn it off already.)@Selahdoor man I love reading this thread , I have the complete opposite problem , try using the OD button, that’s how I do it cuz my eye sore shifts early , otherwise aftermarket controller will fix that issue no sweat, but be careful what you wish for , if your empty you’ll be fine , loaded you’ll be sorry
Pardon my ignorance, but this affects drivability how?OD OFF has two functions. First we know. Disables 4th gear. Second function locks the coast clutch.
The yard that I picked my bumper up at had several truck with the stalk. It's only 10 minutes away, I can give him a call and ask him how much. I'd be happy to send it to you. Let me know. Not likely to find THAT anywhere without buying the entire stalk...

If I head to the wrecking yard anytime soon I will be in the lookout for ya. Free there. It works, as-is.
If I run across one, I'll gladly install it. Otherwise, probably not worth the trouble.
Definitely not worth a trip to the pick and pull. (Cost of the trip and 'admission' alone, is a minimum of 30 dollars. Just not worth it for a little piece of plastic. Maybe if I were going there for something else. But I have no such need right now.)
