Die Summer DIE!
Ok, so I am about to start my turbo install, so I figured I would start a build thread now as well.
First off I bought this truck last March, and have been working on it to get it up to date on maintenance. New IP, injectors, batteries, tires. Lots of interior work to get the truck comfortable to drive.
The plan for this truck is to make a reliable tow rig for towing my Toyota rock crawler over the hills (I live in Denver). It will also double as a sled hauler during the winter months. So, it needs to stay cool during some long pulls up some big hills with up to 7k lbs worth of trailer, and 1k of gear in the truck. Cold starting with out being plugged in will be very very important for sledding.
I picked up a stock turbo from a guy near my work that actually told me about this forum. I had Typ4 rebuild it, and its sitting in my garage just taunting me! While I am in there I will be installing a new clutch (I plan to install the turbo while the transmission is out, is this a good idea?) The clutch is a south bend clutch SMF kit.
Oh yeah and MAD PROPS to Typ4, who rebuilt my turbo just in time for my thanksgiving break from school. I feel bad because I rushed him to get it done, and things went south at work and I was not able to use that break to install the turbo!! So here I am over a month later, ready to start...
Pictures to come!! I can't wait!

I also figured I would add a little tid-bit about what I thought of each of my mods (this is really just a guide for other people looking at the same products):
Pensocola IP and Injectors: Worthless wast of way to much time and money. Had to send one IP back to get one that was barley any better. However dude was good to work with, just has crap products (IMO).
Hypermax cowl induction: Cool product. Looks super clean when its installed, however I couldn't tell much of a difference with the EGT's. They didn't really seem any lower, but they didn't seem to climb as fast.
Hypermax exhaust: Wast of money. Not really bad parts, just not worth the money. It fit just fine, but the muffler is really really restrictive. Should have just straight piped it.
Banks DP: Super nice product. Only complaint is on my part, I should have ordered their entire exhaust instead of the DP and the hypermax exhaust.
Hypermax smoke puffer limiter: Way cool mod. Fun to install since you have to take the cover off the IP and transfer the solenoids over. Also works well, kinda hard to adjust the first time, but works well once you get it.
Gauges: I like them all. Got them from summit, who I buy lots of part for for lots of projects.
South bend clutch with SMF: Second best mod made to the truck besides the turbo.
Turbo set up: Even though I pieced this set up together, it was WELL WELL worth the effort and $$$. All and all I Think I was up and running for $800 (that includes the DP and the rebuild from type4), and have invested another $400 since then in exhaust (hypermax) and intake (factory). I figure a total of $1200 for a brand new turbo is a good deal.
