    Anti-gelling additive

Ha! Didn't think about that! Many of the larger truck stops will have taxed #1 fuel which is, for all intent and purposes, the same as kero. Be very careful you don't get dyed kero. If they catch you with dyed fuel, it costs way too much.

    Anti-gelling additive

Do not use gasoline in a diesel engine! Now, there will be people telling you they've done it for years. And people will tell you they set the governor to 5000 rpm without damage, and they haul 50,000 pound trailers up the mountains and so on, and so on. In Indiana, you do not need...

    timing question

I can't remember if there are marks on that tank or not. If so, well.... If not, mine stays about half full (or empty:rolleyes:) when cold. I really don't think it is critical as too much will simply spill out over the top. Makes a little mess but won't hurt as the cap won't hold any...

Great start to my work day.

Yesterday, I was on my way to work and came up on an old Chevy flatbed hauling a loaded water tank. It was placed to one side of the bed causing the truck to lean a little. The driver, like most around here, was in no hurry, poking along at about 15 MPH. At a passing zone, I decided to go...

    timing question

And, don't overfill the overflow tank! The last time I added coolant, I was pouring it into the tank from a gallon jug. Slowly. I got distracted for just a second or so but when I looked at what I was doing, the stuff was flowing over the top of the tank. Yup! I just snapped the top on...

how the heck to a read one of these!!

Walk into any Ford dealership and ask for it. They'll know and give you what you need. If I remember, it's about 6 bucks a bottle. How many bottles you need depends on the readings you get.

how the heck to a read one of these!!

The service means it's within the serviceable limits. The lower left means it's at the precharge level, and the upper right, test area means it's out of limits. You want your test to come out in the green, service area. The coolant additives prevent cavitation and erosion of the coolant side...

    Transmission (C6) problem/question

Ok. I'll try to find a new factory dipstick, seeing as no here wants to admit the length of theirs. I think that says a lot by itself! :rotflmao The pan seems to show no damage. C'mon C6 guys, is there the possibility that the filter could be mispositioned? Could there be a leak in the...

    Just did manual gp mod.

For what it's worth, I was also confused about the length of time the WTS light was on and the clicking afterward. Then, I replaced ALL the glow plugs with new BERUs. Now, I turn on the key, the WTS light comes on and stays on longer than it did before. When it goes out, I twist the starter...

    Transmission (C6) problem/question

Oh yeah, sure, common sense! Go ahead and take all the fun out of this! LOL Of course you're right. I was kinda in hopes that someone would say it's a common thing and that all you need to do is (fill in the blank). Perhaps a new dipstick is the blank that needs to be filled in! Guess...

    Transmission (C6) problem/question

But, isn't it a *whole* lot longer? I don't know, I guess I should take it to the shop, have them drop the pan, change the filter, check that the pickup is where it's supposed to be, put in the book specified number of quarts of oil and mark the dipstick. The only problem with that is the...

    Transmission (C6) problem/question

Actually, it does owe me money! I spent a small fortune on this thing, I needed a truck that was as reliable as a new one, without the new price. So far, so good! I've now had it for about 5 years and have put in a vacuum pump, a set of glow plugs, a block heater and a couple quarts of ATF...

    Transmission (C6) problem/question

And I will be able to see this foaming on the stick? This tranny has a rear seal (where the driveshaft goes in), that leaks about 3/4 of a quart a year. I know darn well if I try to fix it, I'll end up having to pull the tailshaft housing to put in a new bearing, and having to put in a new...

the big bad oil tank and filtering system

Kenworth, and many other Big Rig trucks used to use a series/parallel switch to run the 24 volt starter on a 12 volt truck. It cycled with the start switch, and I can't remember exactly the connections right now, but I'm thinking you might be able to use one of these, and force the switch into...

    Transmission (C6) problem/question

I'm running a C6 behind my 7.3 - ex U-Haul. I have checked the oil level and it is in the operating range on the dipstick. However, If I stop really quick, the transmission goes into neutral for 30 seconds or so. If I add an "extra" quart of fluid, the problem goes away. I don't notice any...

    Best Way to Stop Engine

Why? Especially in cold weather, it's easier on the starter to not have to turn the transmission gears, hence disengage the clutch when starting. When stopping the engine, I agree. Leave the clutch engaged and transmission in neutral, but only to eliminate the embarrassment of engaging the...

very scary Lockdown! need c6 Help??

For what it's worth, and my info is MANY years old, I've seen parts like those come out of Chrysler rears. It was caused by the driver getting stuck, usually in snow, and spinning his way out. With one wheel going 100 miles an hour and the other stopped, the spider gears spin at an incredible...

    Safe Towing Weight

Rocky Mountain Doubles are where there is a 40 0r 45 foot trailer on the tractor, and a usually 28 foot pup behind that. The trailers I pull are both the same size, bottom dump hoppers. I haul coal from the mine to the power plant here in town. 5 trips a day, 323 miles. No interstate, 25...

    Another oil brand thread?

I have noticed that many of the answers to the which brand of oil questions have made mention that when using Shell Rotella, oil usage was noticed. I myself have noticed this and wondered about it, although not for long. I just used something else like Delo or Delvac or whatever. I really...

    Safe Towing Weight

My guess is you didn't look at his location. The weight means little, it's the number of braking axles and the tire loading. All day long, I run a big rig at 132,000 lbs. on two lane roads (speed limit of 70 MPH). Two trailers, 100 feet long, 11 axles. Been doing it for 5 years now...

    The sound of an IDI

Today, on the way home from work, I stopped at a stop sign. I noticed a bunch of calves running over and staring at my truck. They had a really puzzled look on their faces, ears up, eyes straight at me in anticipation of something. Then I realized their owner must have an IDI powered truck...
