I just got a 95 with the powerstroke and the E4OD. The thing skips 3rd gear (jumps from 2nd right to 4th) unless I really baby it. Then it will shift through all 4 gears.
Also there is no lockup if the van is in Overdrive. If I let off the Accelerator the RPMs drop to Idle. My shifter has OD...
I'm looking at a 95 Ford Diesel where the E4OD is not going into 4th gear. Also the TC isn't locking up (when I let off the accelerator the RPM's go to an idle RPM even at 65 miles per hour).
Is this fixeable or most likely expensive. I had an IDI a while back with an E4OD and it also had...
Of course our trucks are all too old for OBDII so the only way to read codes is with a VERY expensive scan tool usually only shops have right??? Wrong... according to my partner at work.
He tells me that you can just put a multimeter on Volts and get pulses from the connector on the truck...
Old Mister Bill has me convinced I can fix my e4OD and I really believe I can do it if it's not too far gone already. But I found a good deal on a 5 speed and may buy it just in case.
What I found is a ZF 5 trans and whole package (EVERY PART that goes with it) from a 94 460 gas truck. Will...
Ok... Forget the 6 speed. I think I'll just be normal in my expectations and use a ZF5 if I do the swap. I really don't think I can fix my E4OD. I don't know what to test or look for. I think it may be an electronic problem but most of the parts have been replaced. All that's left is wiring. I...
It's my turn for E4ODOA $oon! I'm not looking forward to it. I stuck slightly $400 into sensors and dealer scanning and evaluation. It still is having some issues and the dealer recommends replacing with a rebuilt unit.
From all I've read, there are many electrical problems possible with...
Hello guys,
I've got a new toy that I've been wrenching on. I finally got the engine up to snuff and it runs GREAT! I have a new problem now:
On a 30 minute hwy drive tonight I noticed the following... the truck shifts as smooth as silk when I first pull out of the driveway (nice and cool...
Just wondering what makes these engines go out of timing after the years? I just retimed my IDI and it starts and runs great now. But I don't understand how a geared injection pump can go out of time.
On my mercedes where the pump and cam are chain driven I can completely understand because...
Thought it was Air in Fuel, turned out to be Timing! This thing Runs like A New Truck!
Well the truck is like a new truck now! I had quite a bit of air in the filter when I first bought the truck. I changed all suspected leak points (o-rings on injector caps, return lines, bypassed fuel selector...
I have a 94 Stock turbo IDI. I notice that under the air filter, there's a block of some kind of foam pad that fits the shape of the filter housing. Is that supposed to be there? Do I need it?
Thanks!
Nick
I've seen some on ebay but I want to make sure I get a good set I have one cap with 3 lines coming out of it. It's the one by the gp relay on the turbo engine (1994). I only need the caps. I've got new O-rings and fuel line.
Are there easy things I can do to improve my 94TurboIDI E4OD's fuel economy?
Also, on power... I'm assuming I'm limited (when I get my guages) to certain low amount of boost and fuel by EGT's. If I do any simple mods to help this what are they?
Intercooler?
Water/Methanol?
Which is...
I am pretty sure my air intrusion is coming from the fuel selector valve.
Will I need a new one or just seals somewhere?
Thanks!!
Nick
p.s. I ran the truck isolated to a diesel container and it runs fine. Little to no smoke and holds tight when I turn it off. No leaks.
I've got a leaky fuel pickup/return system (probably in my solenoid) I run WVO in my other vehicles so I figured this'd be a good chance to WVO my IDI while I'm cleaning up air leaks in the stock fuel system.
Has anyone added a heated fuel pickup to the stock Ford tank? I figure I have two...
This forum is great. I'm super appreciative of the great advice I've received so far with my new IDI Turbo.
I have replaced all the injector o-rings, lines, etc to attempt to fix rough starts with no avail. The truck sits for 5 minutes after it's up to temp and misses and smokes when started...
I'm thinking I'm going to install an electric lift pump. I can't handle this air in fuel problem I've been troubleshooting. My question is this:
-What do I do with the hard line that goes from the old lift pump to the fuel filter head?
-What's the best way to get the fuel from the...
I just replaced all of the fuel return lines (injector bypass lines) with clear fuel line. Looks good so far. Here's what I noticed when I finished the job:
Parked the truck up a steep slope to purge the air and lots of air in the return line to the Fuel Filter. Once it ran about 1-2 minutes...
Is this proceedure an ok way to change the trans fluid:
http://www.ford-trucks.com/article/idx/0/057/article/Changing_ATF_Fluid_in_a_E4OD_and_4R100_transmission.html
basically just unplugging the trans cooler return hose to the transmission, starting the truck, running the tranny fluid out...
I just bought my first Ford diesel. It seems like an Excellent engine. I've owned several Mercedes diesels and have learned quite a bit. But I don't know much about the IDI I just purchased (94 F-250 turbo diesel).
First, what are some things I can do to keep this thing in good shape? Is...
How do I know if the lift pump is bad? Will the truck run/miss/rattle make a clunking noise etc?? Also, what are signs of the injection pump going out?
