Some may frown upon this, but I will take a more effective brake system for a welded pedal. I took a 9/16 grade 8 bolt and drilled a hole where it should go, put it in and had a friend (cert. welder) run a bead around the head on the back side. I then cut it to length and drilled a hole for the cotter pin. just buy a 4-6 in bolt so you have a smooth shaft and no threads when you cut it to length.
And no I would not trust a pin that was butt welded on the pedal. it is going through the pedal and welded, which is no different to me then how the factory did it.
