Yes, the Safelite repair works very well. I've had it done several times on my vehicles and generally you can hardly ever tell it was done. It usually leaves a very tiny mark right at the point of impact, but again, barely noticeable. I never had an issue with the glass after. Actually, I've had worse luck with replacing the whole windshield. I'm on my third from Safelite because they can't seem to ever make it stop rattling and I keep making them replace it. Mind you, this is on my Scion xB, not the truck.

My daughter had several starburst dings repaired this way on her '92 Camry. Apparently the insurance company, USAA, paid for the repairs, telling her that they would rather pay for that than pay for an entirely new windshield when those starbursts developed into full-blown cracks. After the repairs were done you had to hunt long and hard to find them. They were almost undetectable.

Thanks for the information.

I may have the star-bursts repaired on the wife's truck, since from your experiences the repair makes the damage almost invisible.

It is more a cosmetic thing with her truck; if those flaws were ever going to spread, they would have done so long ago. :)

Just had this happen on my F250 today. Was taking it through the car wash and BAM! perfectly straight line in the center of the windshield, top to bottom. Where should I look to order the new glass from?

When you go to get a replacement make sure to spend the extra and get a good one or you will get a thin flimsy, wavy thing in front of your face that may pop out.
I remember a few years ago a windshield on one of my Volvos finally got so worn I couldnt see out of it anymore and I had to get a new one and i hunted around for a place that carried Pilkingtion glass ( they make the factory glass for Volvo and most of the high end manufacturers ) and placed an order through an online place withlocal installers that assured me they would use ONLY Pilkington glass... then the installer shows up with a chunk of PPG ( yeah, spare me the industry standard crap, those are some of teh wavy thin garbage ones I'm talking about, those things have a real bad habit of popping out and making folks carsick from having to look through the irregular surface ... and no, they aren't the worst ones out there; there are even cheaper ones available now) so I sent him packing and called theplace back ap and reminded them of our agreement. and they promised me the correct windshield. a few days later they call and tell me its in and their guy is going to pick it up at the distributor ( the distributor in the city is listed as a distributor for pilkington, and also ppg and others) when he gets there the guy calls me and tells me the distributor lied and ordered in another ppg., aparantly he had a beter relationship with ppg and wanted his big comission, this happened THREE more times :backoff. I finally had to write the HEADQUARDERS for Pilkington and contact their marketing director and let them know what a incredibly poor job that their distributor in this area was doing in representing their product since I was literally having to go to the company and beg for one of their windshields at this point .
Now up till this point, the distributor had been feeding me a story that the pilkington winshields were no longer available and ppg was all he could get.
A few days after sending that letter , I get a VERY long and informative and apologetic letter from the bigwig at Pilkington explaining tha Yes, their products ARE available worldwide and Yes, my avaiability problem will be solved immidiately. and no sooner , did i get an extremely apologetic letter from the distributor that had been jerking me around that he had my new Pilkington winshield in and the glass guy was on his way to come pick it up.
All together it took near a month to get the right glass in there, but I refused to settle for second rate.

THose glass guys have a much higher profit margin on the cheaper glass. They pre order the stuff in bulk, but they dont have much of a profit margin on special order high end glass so they try to weasel out of it, so if you want good, glass, especially if you are paying for it, stick to your guns. If you were gullibul enough to go for the glass rider on your insurance policy, then you are pretty much stuck with whatever peeled off strip of Saran Wrap that the insurance adjuster approves ( the glass places all push the same bit, no deductable with insurance... when you put the saran wrap on... but if you want the upsell standard glass it will end up costing you more than the cash places would cost you for a high end glass out of pocket.so why bother with the insurance??? cookoo

I think Robert hasn't made it back yet, but I wander how you tell the difference on the brands when they show up....

Some place on the glass it's etched on there, usually on the lower right hand corner. Big long debate on the TDS about Safelight and other Brands. I just recently bought this 2004 Windstar, evidently it's had the windshield replaced, took it thru the automatic carwash, it was like a flood coming in across the top, no way to get out, must of had 5 gallons of water come in, yeah it's a Safelite glass. Sealed it all up with RTV, looks like hell but don't leak.

all you need to pull the window is a saw-saz with a scraper, a puddy knife work fine to pull the trim. I am about to do mine, be easy with it case you can bend up the frame. I got the window for $30 the yard an the 3M chalk is $25-30. where I had the truck parked last some a-hole kids decided to throw rock at mine
