As some of you may know I bought a 96 F250 2WD last week with the ZF5 in it.
(222000 miles)

When I start it up it starts fine but rattles a bit, if I press the clutch in when I slow down it shakes/rattles a bit too and if I shut it down it quits with this typical "clunk".
So I think I need a new flywheel. It looks like it's still the original. Yesterday I opened up the inspection cover and I can turn the flywheel by hand a couple cm or lets say 2 inch... This means it's bad - right?

My question now is where can I get a new one?
I looked on rockauto but there I can only find solid flywheel conversion kits

Are they good or should I reuse a DMF?

Thanks in advance!

(keep in mind I'm from germany...not every store ships overseas)

I think you can get them somewhere.
But I would go smf. My truck has the smf and I don't feel/hear any extra vibrations nor gear rollover noise.

Thanks.
If I go with a SMF are there really no problems? I always read about gear noise

If I drive it with the defective DMF a couple months more - what can happen?

LOL
Okay so I will change it as soon as possible.
Big question for me still is if I should go SMF or DMF... SMF would be much cheaper :dunno ...have to think about it a couple more days...

Go with the smf.run synthetic atf.

If you run it with the bad dmf youre taking a chance of snapping the crankshaft,in ten years of playing with PSDs ive never seen or heard of it happening.but they will crack the transmission case at the bellhousing.
