I like the 4.10s. My truck is fairly heavy with all the tools and stuff in the reading body (7500 last time I went to the dump) and the old girl still has some get up in her. I get around 15 mpg, and I use the full travel of the throttle if you know what I mean. 4.10s as mentioned are going to be easier on your drivetrain, especially your clutch. I think Calvin has an F-SUPERDUTY with 400k miles on it and the original clutch (with 5.13 gears). And there is no road that I know of where you need to go over 80 mph. I think its silly that the car manufacturers use the scale of 0-140 or 0-120 on the speedometers. I also hate how they only mark the speed in 20mph increments. But thats neither here nor there

Hey goose, my fuel gauge is usually in the same spot too! EMPTY lol

I love my 4:10's - towing is beautiful with them, and even on the highway - no need to do more than 65 mph anyways....set the cruise, turn up the tunes, and enjoy the ride.

Haveen't gone that fast long enough to get mileage figures but she sure is thirsty like thatLOL The front fuel sending unit does not work:rolleyes:

I just wanted to show G.W Buffalo that these rigs can do more than 80ish:sly

I would go 4.10's. Even with my 33's I personally wouldn't want anything lower (numerically).

If your current axle is well used you may be better off finding a donor rear axle with 4.10's in it already. Around here complete axles go for much less than a new gear set and installation. Just a thought.

I say 4.10.

My F450 zf5 7.3 na got 20 mpg highway with a 5.13. I am not sure what my point is though.

My F250 zf5 with a 4.10 and 265-75-16 loves to cruise at 80mph turning 2700rpm. When I approach a big hill, I try to get up to 3100rpm in 5th and make a good run for the top. But normally some ******* pulls out into the hammer lane going about 55 and I end up in 4th at 2300rpm blowing black smoke all the way to the top. -cuss

What I really want is a 5.13 and an overdrive unit. :sly

I just remembered I have a Motorhome with a Turbo400 and a GearVender. I wonder if I can put the GV on my BW1356? :dunno

I am going to start a thread on that.

4:10's in both my '87 and '90. I'd go with the 4:10's based on my experience.

4.10's with 35's will be nice - just go to the junkyard and find a rear axle with 4.10's and install. I wouldn't do a gear swap on a rear axle that is VERY easy to find. I've got a stock 6.9/T-19 with 3.54's - going to be adding a ZF5 in the future, going to enjoy the MPG's.

I wouldn't want 3:55's in mine no way. If all I did was highway driving with no pulling maybe. But even w/ 4.10s and my light 5ver here in Colorado, those 4.10s are a must.

IMO 4.10's and 35" tires would be a perfect gear ratio. Mine with 33" tires has been comfortably cruising down the interstate every day @ 70 mph (75 if I'm running a little late) without screaming the engine.

I've towed similar loads with 3.55's and 4.10's - It comes down to what you plan on doing with the truck.

If you tow only light loads, or tow infrequently then the 3.55's will net you a couple MPG increase in highway economy.

If you plan on towing heavy, or towing alot, then definately go with the 4.10's. This is what I run in my truck now and I couldn't imagine life with 3.55's hauling my 5er. With the ZF5 I cruise comfortably at 70, and I get 18 MPG regularly.

Truth is I feel really uncomfortable in my truck when running over 75 MPH anyway, something about a 6000 lb chunk of steel moving that fast just gives me the willys... :D
