They're not made anymore supposedly. I called around and couldn't find anything that's even in stock - check yukon you'll see... 3.73 is the tallest gear set currently available. PLEASE find me precision matched gears for my axles that are better than 3.73s!!! I can't findum.

The issue isn't the 70 it's the 50 - remember they need to be matched - 4wd...

3.75 my arce, I have 3.54's in my Dana 70 from the factory. You need to find a new shop if they think the lowest gear ratio that you can get is 3.75.

Really, thats pretty interesting. I would think that they would still stock them. Have you ever thought about getting used 3.54/3.55's for the front and back? Are are you looking for new gears? You could also see if they sell a lower gear for the Ford 10.25, and if they do swap that in.

What kind of gears do they offer for the Dana 50 TTB?

the 70 can go down to 3.10 the 50 in available to 3.73. So the idea is that I'm sticking with my 4.10's (a swap would be about 2k if the gears were available), on my DD recently rebuilt BW T-19 transmission.

With the GearVendors I'll get the effect of 3.20 in my 4th OD. This puts me in the sugar range of 2300 rpm range at 70mph with my 32" tires, which also happens to be my peak torque range. I'll also basically have a 7 speed transmission now as well.

The only thing that concerns me is that there is an electronic box that detects whether or not you're in 4wd and turns the unit off if you are. I don't like electronics - although I figure I could hot wire it if I needed to.

Interesting.

I just found out that my t19 could have 2 different types of gearing:

4.0, 2.4, 1.4, 1

or

5.1, 3.0, 1.8, 1

yipes. I'm thinking I have the 5.1 version - cause let me tell ya I can take off in 2nd easily!

Thats about right cause I turn just a hair over 2K @ 60mph. I'd check it out but I havent had time to put my truck back together.

The Doug Nash Engineering and US Gear setups are slightly cheaper than a GV. like about 500-1000 cheaper. There also was a guy on here who was selling some sort of auxillary trans similar to the GV fora good bit less. To me $2700 is a lot to drop on an old truck like this except under a few very special circumstances...such as Hesutton's frame up restoration OR if the truck is going to be making you good money.

Cheaper than an axle or transmission swap, unless you're doing them yourself. A NV4500 alone is 1900.00 w/o a core, add a 4wd kit and a swap kit and installation and you're in the 5-6k range. This will be a long range hauler for me - so well - there you have it.

Why not a ZF 5 speed? They came with some 6.9's in 87 so it can be done, and has been done to our trucks. It would be cheaper than a gear vendors.

It starts at $2,200.00 w/o a core here, a long with bell housing change, 4wd kit and swap kit which add $1,000.00 easily etc. Based on my calcs it ends up being about $500.00 more expensive.

Check ebay, there is usually a guy selling a 4x4 ZF-5 tranns rebuilt for $1200. You can then add on your transfer case, or buy a 1356 and have that rebuilt.

I think the price ends up being a wash if I cannot keep my recently rebuilt 1347. Also the final drive ratio ends up being the same with the zf5 as with a GV .76 vs .78 if I remember the numbers correctly.

Also the zf-5's sold on ebay end up being at bes $1800.00 + shipping at best if not more because of the $500.00 core charge.
