Well, I'm back down to one truck

Been driving my non-turbo as a DD for about a year now. She's done me well, but driving an average fo about 60 miles per day and the price of diesel fuel these days, it was just getting too ******* the pocketbook.

So, I swapped her for a 1991 Jetta GLI 16v Wolfsburg Edition. It will do me well as a daily driver, and I still have my turbo truck for hauling and towing.

Gas or diesel Jetta? Either way, nice car.... probably gets 30mpg or better whereas with that other 250 I doubt you could get 18. My 250 is my DD but I might have to reevaluate if I had a 60 mile round trip every day. Luckily I don't have to drive that far.

i dont blame ya, i have a 110 mile round trip to work and i never drive my diesel (or other truck). we take my friends 92 cavi z24. not as good as his old saturn but better then my trucks. id love a diesel jetta, even though they are kinda girly lol.

Heh, a 16V GLI is not exactly a diesel Jetta, and not some boooooring fuel mileage getter, should be a nice peppy DD....
I'd have something like that, but, I don't fit comfortably in much other than a full size truck....

I don't blame you in the slightest...I sold my old E-350 for that exact same reason, and got a Mercedes diesel. I'm on M-B #2 now (gave my first one to my ex-g/f), and saving up to replace it with a TDI Jetta wagon...

These IDI's are great, but not good daily drivers from a fuel economy standpoint IMHO...I'm burning almost $75 in fuel per week

Don't knock the Jetta for being girly, I usually like what gets out As for an IDI as a DD, I guess with the homebrew bio I'm spending about $30/week in fuel, it could be less in a smaller car, but I drive what I like. Like 82, I feel most comfortable in a full size truck or SUV. I used to drive a little 4 banger Ranger with a C3/4? got a little better gas mileage than the IDI, but I just about had to curl my legs to fit in... I'm only 6'2" much bigger than that and you would have a tough go of it with a smaller car.

i have also been forced to park the old diesel $80 in fuel a week is just to much i have been driving my old 89 ranger 4 banger 5 speed and getting almost 30mpg

i had a Jetta TDI and some guys called it girly but i scored my wife with it... 50+ mpg on the highway and plenty of room for me, i'm 6'3. i sold it though because i needed a new work truck. now i'm considering selling a Ford to get a 4 banger pickup.

Yeah the 16v is a gasser, and it isn't the most economical of all Jettas, though it gets 25-30 mpg in mixed driving.

With 135 hp and around 150 ft lbs torque and a 5-speed tranny in a car that weighs about 3000 lbs - maybe less - it isn't the least bit boring.

I'd have given my eye teeth to find a 92 eco-diesel Jetta, but they are as rare as hen's teeth. I may sell off a couple of other rigs to raise some cash and then try to trade that and the Jetta for a diesel car - MB, VW, Audi, whatever....

Yeah I think 25-30 is about right for a gasser Jetta. The TDI seems to be real popular but you're talking about some older stuff than that....and I think the diesel Jettas were quite rare before the TDI
