valvetrain problem

I think i've got a tick and a woof out the intake, we've decided which side the tick is on and 2 of my friends have said 2 different holes that they think it is. So I think i have it narrowed down to 3, 5 or 7. I had all the rockers off and all the pushrods out that you can get out. All the rockers were tight and I didn't see any bent pushrods. They all oil. The only thing that I found was on the 3rd valve the thing between the spring and the head was moving side to side, non of the other once did it, but I could move pretty much ever valve around. Anybody have any thouht on what to look at next. I have a compression tester on the way.

Does everybody just let there valves drop, anybody got anything?

it sounds like you found your problem at #3. I did run mime just to see if it would drop too btw.....

What do you think is wrong, the valve, or something above the head.

I had multiple problems with the motor. The entire valvetrain was suspect. At minimum, I gather I must have more than one valve that was seizing up on the valve guide, that was determined by three lifters had disemboweled themselves. No BS....will be posting pics soon to show for it. both back cylinders were cavitated, head gaskets were tight coming off, and there was oil in the radiator. I really felt I was doing the Jake and Elwood thing coming out to CA from TX back in January. I knew I was in trouble with the oil in the radiator and the intermittent woofing, I just didn't know how lucky I was until I did the post mortem on the motor a month ago. Since I couldn't get a good answer from Ford or any stealership on how they QA their remans, I don't hustle their remans anymore after this one comitted suicide with a proven 50k on the paperwork and ODO.
