Howdy!

1993 F250 7.3 IDI ZF5 4X4

Getting u joints for my truck. I have two options. 1.188 or 1.063?? Which one do I get? Really don't want to buy both and bring a set back later, don't have the money for that.

If I remember correctly, it's the bigger one. Non diesel F250s use the smaller ones. Ran into a similar issue, bought u joints, just for a f250 they sold me smaller ones by mistake.

Gotcha, I was thinking the same. Just grabbed those! I drive a big ol' diesel, ofc I get the biggest part:Thumbs Up

Definitely not gonna blame you if it doesn't work:joker:

Here is the confusing part! They also have a u joint that is 1.063 AND 1.188. Good grief, why can't it be simple?:idiot:

Ok, now I'm getting started! Want this to be as easy as possible. Do I have to pull the shaft out of the tcase? Or can I leave it on and while replacing the joint?

Got home from the parts store. It was a horrible drive back.

Looksy what I found when I got underneath! Talk about close! Hope the driveshaft ain't damaged.

You got lucky on the u-joint size thing. I have a 1989 f250 and it was originally diesel with a c6. I bought a 1989 f250 diesel wrecked donor for a zf 5 speed swap. The c6 truck had the smaller u-joints. The zf truck had the larger u-joints and the driveshaft was twice as heavy as the one out of the c6 truck. I ended up swapping the yokes on the rearends and using the large u-joint heavier shaft in my truck when the zf went in place. Both trucks were f250hd's with the diesel engine.

Well Nero, the 1.188 u joint (biggest they have) is too loose. I'm wondering if the yoke is bad? It fits snug on the driveshaft.

The 1.188 is the size that fit mine. Mine were super tight and difficult to press in/out. I think previous owners used the “big hammer” method and deformed the yoke on mine.

I'd MIC them out, cause my U joints for both mine and my dad's ZF had to be pressed in on both the tcase yoke and the driveline side.
With how one u joint cap was worn all the way through, could have some damage to it causing the hole to oblong.

They are definitely 1.188.

I used the press to get them on the driveshaft. On the tail yoke to the tcase, it is very loose per my video. I bought a third 1.063 u joint just in case and to compare. It's definitely smaller by 1/8th of an inch. It's just the tcase yoke that's super loose.

Very strange.

The caps off the old U joint didn't seem loose in the yoke in the first video you posted. Get a pair of calipers and measure what's left of the old caps, the new caps, and the yoke bore. Get some numbers.

I finished last night at 3 am. I had the attitude of it works it works. Clips hold the u joint on the transfer case yoke. Everything was pressed into place on the driveshaft. Only issue was the yoke, which I will need to order a new one eventually. The old caps were very snug, not sure why they are not now but like I said, in the driveshaft they fit very tight.

The truck drives amazingly smooth now.

That last u joint cracks me up how bad it was. Goodness!
