Austin how long ago was that? If I could have gotten a rebuild kit from them it sure would save me some trouble

02/14/18 from hypermax email

“Hi Austin,
The turbo is a Garrett T-4 mount, they make it to our specs. We sell new turbos for $985, we can rebuild your turbo for $375 (that includes new bearings and seals), or you can buy a rebuild kit (includes bearings and seals) for $165. We do offer all the parts for the turbo as well.”

I messaged them .... I felt like my question wasn’t answered but they weren’t completely unhelpful.

Welcome to the Twilight Zone of Hypermax Customer Service. They either have no information about their kits or contradictory information. Like for example, my hypermax kit (the van version) is supposed to be timed 2 deg below the stock timing. But when I talked to them, they said 12 deg was optimal. They didn't even know their own documentation. And the sad part is, after several timing tests, I found out that 4-5 deg BDTC was the best performance for getting the "pulse" kit to spool up properly. So both of their answers were BS.

They also F'ed up my tranny dipstick tube and the kickdown linkage for my C6. I contacted them and they tried to fix the situation, but they sent an even worse solution. I ended up not using the kickdown linkage and I made my own tranny dipstick tube.

I think they are "over" with their legacy IDI support and they have a bit of senioritis. The people who likely designed and built the original IDI pulse system probably retired years ago, and the noobs at their business are coasting on rumor or assumptions, just to get people to buy new.

If they’re the same, why are they listed for different transmissions?
My guess is that they're listed for the year of truck with a manual transmission. It's also listed as 6.9 with 4 speed and 7.3 with 5 speed. I've seen two 1987's that had a 5 speed and one 1986 that did too. If i remember right, the shifter in the 85 looked diffenrent than the normal one with a ZF5. It wasn't straight like usual, it was "angled" more like one on a 4 speed. Now I'm not going to try to claim that these were factory and not a custom install (even the shifter in the 1986). I was just a kid swapping out engines and didn't really know much.

I understand they’re different between the manual and auto but I didn’t know if there was a difference between the t19 and zf5 kits. They couldn’t answer which one I should buy for my 83 6.9 with a zf5
