Turbo trouble

well I figured out why my 7.3 idi with the hypermax kit wasn’t building boost. My question is do I just need to replace the compressor wheel or is something more needed to be replaced? It doesn’t have end play it just has a little side to side play. I took a picture of the compressor wheel.

If the compressor housing is scored up badly expect to replace that as well.

FYI I would forget contacting hypermax for rebuild parts, I had a customer who had the same issue and hypermax would only sell him a new turbo, no rebuild kit, wouldn’t let him send it in either

Off topic but that engine lifting hook looks like it was used on every engine made.

I second this. Hypermax customer service is pretty horrendous. I wrote about their BS on my blog a while ago.

I messaged them about a hypemax kit that came on a truck I got. They offered a rebuild kit, new turbo, and turbo rebuilding service. With their prices, I decided when it needs a turbo I’d just get something like a 200sx. That customer service experience was good. Recently I decided I wanted to start saving for a new kit from them but my 83 has had a zf swapped in so I emailed asking what the difference between their conventional and pulse kits was and if I should order a kit for my year of truck or the transmission my truck has. They only responded by saying I should get the pulse kit for a manual truck. So I asked my question about if I should buy for my year or transmission because of the swap and they replied saying the kits are the same. If they’re the same, why are they listed for different transmissions? I felt like my question wasn’t answered but they weren’t completely unhelpful.
