Well after almost 3 months the shop that has my Banks sidewinder wastegated Mistubishi t3o6h has found the hot side wheel.... Thanks Russ for sending me this direction... You are a turbo life saver for sure....:D Only one shop on the east coast told me they may be able to locate parts but they needed part numbers because Mistubishi wont look up parts without a part number... So why do we need them on that end of the phone....:dunno It will be down tomorrow. Then I will have a spare unit for the just in case down the line. As you recall, Banks will not be selling the kits after they sell the last 2 they have on the shelf now. Last year they sold 1 7.3 kit. I know the year before last I bought just the turbo from them because they didn't sell parts. That cost me $1100.00.....-cuss:mad: I didn't want to be running that turbo because I killed that motor when a freeze plug poped out. The oil temp passed 330 degrees when I saw what was happening and the motor just stopped hot.... No telling what damage happened to the turbo bearings. I know a lot of you guys and others wish to have a turbo and gees, I have 2 complete systems. I'm not bousting or crowing about this either. I do buy spare parts when they come along if the price is right. So far I have nearly a complete motor in spare parts waiting for a design.

Is the unit that you're running on your truck wastegated? From what I've always heard of Banks I probably would have just gone to ATS.

Yes... Both turbo kits I have are wastegated. They are the TE03H Mistubishi turbos. They are great units but getting part parts for them is tuff. The seal kits are everywhere but try and find a hot wheel like I did... There are some aftermarket suppliers too but I want what I know works. Not some third world machine shop "I made it myself" deal... I will pay for what I want and be happy with it till something better comes down the pike.....:D

Leave it to banks to use an oddball turbo like that...at least with the ATS kit, you can practically get Garrett turbo parts at the corner drugstore, it seems.

Banks kits are pretty nice, but I agree that the availability of the Garrett turbos are nice. Someday I plan on pushing my boost up to 20 psi. Can a stock turbo from an idi turbo with the downpipe and exhaust housing upgrade get even close to 20 psi. If not what is the most boost anyone has seen one of these turbos make?

A Moose pump can boost easily to 15 lbs. I watched mine go to that pressure and it wasn't even slowing down so I feel it could make 20 easily. The reason I stopped it from continueing is the pyro was keeping up with it. Also I'm not running an intercooler so any boost over about 12 lbs is wasted because its so hot from the turbo beating the heck out of it... Remember gas compressed creates heat and our spinning turbo wheels brings out the worst in the air temp going into our motor... Can a motor hold together at 20 lbs of boost... Please let all of us know....:D I feel mt motor could handle it but why.... I want to enjoy driving it more than repairing it...

Hey icanfixall, are you gonna dyno your truck after you have your intercooler setup on? I'm really excited to hear what your numbers are.

Maybe yes about the intercooler but... I definately plan to dyno it with the stock turbo pump and the Moose pump. Then later on with the Moose pump and intercooler..... The new heads that I have been working on would make more hp than the ported set on my motor now... So the quest for hp is never ending here.

Would a stock ATS turbo do 20 psi...yes, would it do it efficiently...no.

A turbo upgrade would be required to run 20 psi reliably without superheating the air. That's why it'd be nice if powerstroke turbos were easier to adapt.

Hey guys, Typ4 just sent me a 60-1 compressor for my 088 turbo kit. I'll let you know how it turns out when I get it.;Sweet

Might take a little modding to install, but we'll have to see.

So you think that even with the ATS exhaust housing upgrade and the downpipe upgrade I would still need to upgrade me compressor side even though I have a big intercooler on my truck.

Also how much would it heat the air if I did run 20 psi. I also forgot to mention that I have a water/methanol kit that I need to install so I don't think egts are gonna be a problem. I just wonder if at this point if it would be worthless to turn up the turbo that much if it heats the air too much. Even if I do have the intercooler and w/m injection.

Banks, ATS and Hypermax all seem to bottle neck in the compressor. What you have to remember is the stock IDI is not considered reliable above 10 PSI of turbo boost, so thats all the systems were really intended to put out. It would seem that none of them were counting on us modding our truck as much as we are lately.

I would do one thing at a time, and see how far you have to go to get 20 PSI. Dave Sponaugle on the other forum was able to get to the mid 20s with an 093 ATS turbo kit on his engine using a thick layer of header wrap on all the pipes, dropped compression, a bigger IP, and a wastegate that is so tight that it might as well be wired shut. While his boost may be very high, I suspect the efficiency may not be because the compressor is still so small.

Russ is running a 60-1 compressor inside the stock 093 housing (housing was carved out to fit) and it did make an improvement. At least two other guys are about to do the same upgrade. AFAIK, I'm the first one to try and fit a complete 60-1 compressor housing and all, on a truck like this.

Anything over 8 to 10 lbs needs to be intercooled for best results IMO.
Superheated intake air is just going backwards in the quest for power. I wish I could afford dyno time to see where I am at now.
And if you go over 15 or so without studs I think you are asking for trouble.

BTW david, you are 60-1 wheel in a TO4B housing, also carved a tiny bit to fit, it is very pretty, you are going to like it I think.

I know I will need studs. That is extremely important with these motors. I believe that these motors just have a little more performance potential than people give them credit for. There is only one way to find out for sure. But when I do turn the boost that high, I an on having a stronger more built motor ready in case it does explode. But anyway I think these motors with studs can handle close to 20 psi without exploding.
