HI all, I bought a used banks sidewinder for my 6.9 off ebay......Upon getting it I found the bearings to be junk so I put a set of bearings in it and built the exhast header pipes and downtube...Now that I have it on it seems to be blowing a little bit of oil past the intake side of the turbine, is this normal? I didnt see any type of seal in the turbo at all. Also I did not get the intake side of the turbo either, That will all have to be fabricated. Does anyone think it is worth my time? How much power would I gain with the turbo opposed to running it N/A? Also does anyone have any parts for one of these turbos(intake hat, air box). The engine I have only has about 35K on it and I think that it needs a more appropreate induction system.....Any thoughts? Thanks, Brad

If your question is " Is a turbo going to give me more power ". Yes, Hypermax said my turbo would give me a additional 70 horsepower and I believe it.

when you run the truck for a while, after you shut it off you can stick your finger in there and there is a oil residue(black). I assume its oil but to tell you the truth I dont know how it would get in there...am I just paranoid about having the engine run away on motor oil or whatcookoo . I dont know.....Thanks for the help.

forgot also, how can i relocate the CDR? Can I have a hose come from the valve cover? Or can I just put a standard filtered breather on it somewhere?

Do you have a CDR on it now or not? If yes, that could be where your oil in the turbo is coming from. I'm not sure where the banks kit locates the cdr, but it should vent the crankcase from the IP cover with a special adaptor.
If you didnt turn up your fuel after you installed the turbo, you probibly wont notice much improvement.

The turbo oil return should replace the CDR thingie that is in the top of the valley, just behind the air-intake.

A replacement oil-cap, with a vent/hose, will replace the CDR.

Yes, turbos can leak oil at either end.

Usually an oil leak is a sign of a failing bearing, as it will let the shaft wobble and oil escape.

It will get worse quickly, until it is a steady stream.

Come to KY and I will sell you an entire Hypermax system that came off my old 6.9 that I know is good.

As already stated, no gain will be noticed if the fuel isn't turned up.
