Need Quad Cab 4x4
I have a 88' F250 that I will be selling after I get back from Afghanistan and will be buying another 4 door or maybe extended cab F250 or single rear F350. (If anyone is interested I will be selling it for $3000 upon return) I was thinking about going to a PSD but have decided that I would be money up if I just did an IDI build. My price limit is about $5000.00 for the build and I would like to make about 750 lb/ft.
So my question is, is it feasible to take the engine apart and throw in some 17.5 or 18:1 pistons, some H-Beam rods and head studs? Thinking I want to either go with a custom fab deal running a turbo off a factory Cummins or PSD. Maybe do a mount like on a Subaru so its off on the side and run a IC of some sort. Or just get an ATS system. What would be the best way to provide fuel for it? Would a Moose pump be sufficient, or would something like a VP44 be necessary? Also would knife edging the crank be worth it? Is there any rotating mass outside of pistons/rods that can be eliminated? Are there any roller rockers for a gas engine that will work? Also will I need to consider anything for the cam, or just leave it alone? Any oil system considerations? What about working the heads? Could I do some bowl work and come out close to my idea of a CR or are the heads in such a way that only the passages should be touched if anything? Any cooling considerations, such as better radiator, electric fans (which will be done anyway), sleeving the block, etc?
