What type of oil goes in a 5 speed transmission, is it 90 w grease or the lighter synthetic stuff that goes in the newer transmissions. Also where do you check it at. 1990 F-250 5 speed 7.3

There is a fill plug up on the drivers side, just fill it till you have it running back out, then quickly put the plug back in. you can jack up the drivers side, it helps get a little more in.

if it has the same additives for the syncros that royal purple syncromesh has, i would not use it. i put that crap in my transmission before my last trip and my trans temps were well over 330 degrees. dumped it when we got to the campground and put in atf. during the trip home my trans temps were over 100 degrees cooler. i will not put anything but atf in my 5speed from here on out.

The Castrol Synthetic is TranSynd, correct? My V10 has Castrol GTX 5w30 in the crankcase, and Castrol 75w140 Synthetic Gear oil in the diff. Might as well put Castrol in the trans as well.
