transmission and bellhousing question?

guys out of all the tranny and bell housings available what is the smallest and take up the least space?

I didn't know there were more than one available? ZF has it's own and the c6 has it's own, no choice there. The 4 speed has one only too correct? Apparently you are talking about something else?

There are commercial bell housings used in medium duty and heavy duty trucks.

But those are even bigger and so are the transmissions that go with them.

I believe all of the transmissions for these trucks have casted bell housings.

out of all them which one is the smallest overall? I am trying to keep from cutting up my cab. I know that some of the bump trucks had c6's but I dont know if there smaller than the gas ones. I am removing my 4bt and putting in my 7.3 idi.

The T19 has a bolt on bell housing, but there is no other bell housing available to replace it and still work with the diesel.

Well, I did hear with some effort, you can modify a 460 bellhousing but I woudn't recommend it. (auto bellhousings cannot be modified in anyway to work!)

I think the C6 is the most low profile since there are no re enforcing ribs on the top, but it probably won't be a very big difference. Have you considered a small body lift?

the t18 and t19 are smaller trannys when I look at them compared to the single piece tranny and bell housing 5 speeds and od auto. If I could make it work I would like to run a np435 that where in the earlier ford trucks.

I hate to go with any body lift as I have always hated they way they made trucks look. 1-2" might make a big help though.

I don't like any sort of lift either. My truck has better ground clearance than my Dad's 4x4 GMC and if I could, I would like to drop it slightly.

What dimention do you need? I have the bolt on bell to my NP435 and can get you the measurements.

You can't make or purchase an adapter to make your current transmission work with the IDI? I would think of the dedicated transmissions the T18/19 or NP435 would be your best bet. Also they are tough and will take a lot of abuse and have a great granny low(NP435 and T18, anyway not the diesel T19s though) I have a Diesel C6 for 2wD I can get you dimensions, heck you can HAVE that transmission for shipping costs if you want it.

current transmission? I have the 93.idi with a 97 e40d. If your talking about the chevy transmission I dont like it now and am going to sell it with the 4bt. With the 4bt I put the engine in and had room to move the engine forward to make the tranny fit how it needed. I am looking into using the e40d so I have overdrive and can sell the gearvendors. I have the baumann controller to run the transmission and just have to find a few sensors and 4 bolt converter. I hope to sell a few things and buy me a real nice 50-60s car in the late spring. I love to drive a standered and am still looking into that. I would probably have tons more room for it but will have trouble with firewall clearance for the slave cylinder. I will have clearance issues with my hydro boost setup more than likely but will find out this weekend.

seawalker I would be interested in seeing a pic of the bell housing.
