1986 f250 6.9 turbo my brother came home with his first dis it is auto it has a gaget on the shift DNE 2 what is it and how to use i told him it looks like a overdrive shifter help thank you

Yup, that there is a Doug Nash Splitter box. I believe they could be had in either direct and over, or direct and underdrive. Most likely though in that truck the problem with them was revving too high on the hwy especially if 4.10 gears in the rear, so it is most likely an overdrive unit.
