Actually that is patina. Lot of people pay buko $ for a paint job like that. It`s vintage.

I came to say ask how hard you were pinching the chain cause the shafts will move, but I'm late to the party. I think you can run it just fine. I just rebuilt mine and it was nearly perfect inside, I had less deflection than your picture but I didn't pull hard due to the shaft slop. These chains are beasty, I feel like we'll be breaking u-joints long before a decent and well-lubricated chain.
