Tool is actually cheaper than you may think, IIRC about $150, then you use whatever automotive light you find from a friend.

umm injector bar.
like a prybar. I dunno what it's really called, small hook on one end to pry injectors outta the heads of detroits with. i got 4-5 different sizes

Ah, think I know what you're talking about, but I'd be a bit leery on using it in the injection pump line ports to turn the pump with it - if you have the boss on the front of the pump use that, that's what tis there for.

haha...yeah... im gunna be honest...i cant afford the fancy tool... im trial and error and i hope it doesnt blow up... 17 and learning... works in a truck shop for 4 years and i do love diesel

idk if its my pump for sure...everythings too loud to tell... but its like it has a faint squeal at high high rpms and when reved up fast... and i havent looked but i just drove to school (7 miles) and when i got in the parking lot it sounded like i heard that faint squeal at idle..would changing the timing affect that? i didnt move the pump far...i was very clean about everything spraying it off with thinner and everything. and i marked it incase i need to put it back

Timing by ear and experimentation is a crap shoot at best. It's hard to beat getting it set dead on. You need to find somebody with a meter that knows how to use it.
