timing advance?

i was wondering if it would hurt anything if i ran a switch to the timing advance on the injector pump and ran the truck like that all of the time?

Why you would want to do that is beyond me. Why not just advance the IP about a dime's width, same thing. That is meant to be energized when the Hi idle is energized, fact is they are both hooked together thru the engine temp sensor, when the engine temp reaches 120* that sensor opens and the Hi idle and cold advance de-energize, it's purpose is to advance the timing to correspond with the increase in RPM. The lever on the side advances the IP timing curve in relation to the throttle position.

you say the lever on the side is to advance the timing in relation to throttle pos. my trucks rpm's jump up when you floor it and then fall back a couple of thousand rpm's is that my timing or a bad pump?

Ain't that what I said, can't put it any clearer. Your RPM jump up has nothing to do with IP advance, that is different problem, related to the tach or the sensor itself. Or maybe your clutch is slipping with a manual tranny, or the TC is slipping with an automatic.
