timing advance

i have heard of people permintly wiring the timing advance on i know that can eat up glowplugs, is there any thing else that it can hurt? does it help, i know that were mine is set now works pretty good, and its advanced over stock sounds like a psd with advance on, and almost like when when it kicks off

I dont know why you would want to do that, the cold advance is for starting a cold engine. Advancing the timeing too much will make it rattle, blow lots of smoke and have low power and high EGT's. Retarded timing will burn GP's too. I have messed with the timing on my truck more than I care to count to find the sweet spot for my setup, when you find it you'll know. If you move the pump and it the truck dosent feel right move it again, dont drive it. It took me about 2 weeks until I settled for my current setting.
