I found this brand new relay at my house and my glow plug relay is blown. What luck right anyway I think i wired it wrong and i need you guys' help. If somebody out there that has a 7.3 idi if you could kindly pull your air filter housing off and take a pic of yours that would be greatly appricated. Or just simply tell me which ones i have switched around in the pic below. Oh and later i will post a pic of the huge freakin hole in the side of the old one if i get a chance. Any help is greatly appricated!!!

BTW, IIRC the relay that goes with the 7.3l controller's actually special...I don't know if you can swap in any relay and have it work or if it needs the special one. Also, any chance the controller itself is blown?

Lastly, your pic doesn't really show, but does the relay you put on have metal tabs to go onto the controller? If so, I think these tabs serve as a secondary ground...which isn't good with this controller, because the controller controls the relay by grounding it through the white wire to the lower small terminal (in the pic I attached). IIRC the relay that was on the controller originally has those tabs riveted on separately and it doesn't play any role in the electrical operation of the relay.

I hope that made a little bit of sense...I'm running on far too little sleep

Well, I tried doctoring that picture a bit to help see which colors go where.

Sometimes it is hard to decifer the yellow from the white wire coming out of the controller, but you can tell which goes where by the size of the ring connectors on the ends.

The solenoid is somewhat individual, in that it needs to have the second small terminal for the ground, and be the right height for the wavy metal band.

I have an old controller that I took apart and the studs that the solenoid and the wavy band mount to are just cast in the plastic, so it won't matter whether the tabs on the solenoid are also a ground.

You mean you can't find the black ground wire coming out of your controller?

It should be bolted to the intake bolt or somewhere right there.

Is it quite a ways below the black spacer? Its not even touchin the relay

The black wire comes out of the controller and dosen't touch the solenoid/relay.

What happens is the ignition power goes into one side of the relay (small terminal with red wire) and then back out the other side (small terminal with white wire) but dosen't engage the relay until the circuit is completed to ground.
The power then goes into the controller via the white wire and the controller chooses when to connect the white wire to the ground of the black wire and then the relay engages until the controller breaks the connection between the white wire and black wire and then the relay is dissengaged.

Clear as mud as they say, right.

I wired it the way it looks in the diagram you posted today and its still not working ... Maybe the controller is stuck on the off position

I think i'm gonna hook my manual switch back up tomorrow morning. The reson it wasn't working last time is because there wasn't really anything left of the relay, as seen in the pic up there somewhere lol. It should work now. Do i hook up a wire from the switch to the negative post of the battery and then from the switch to the white wire post...? thats how i had it last and i was told it was right

That should work as long as you have ignition power when you turn the key on from that red wire that hooks to the small terminal at the top right in that picture I posted.
