thanks for all the input. Everything I’ve done suggests 4x4 does not work.

Dropped the clutch on gravel - only rear tire marks. Dry road turns with 4H feel the same as 2H. Did some tests with snow cover the other day with same results. Oh well put it on my tab.
I’ve verified the hubs were locked too

Weird. Wonder if the shift fork isnt working right. Lo range is just a planetary gear reductor so that may be why lo feels like it works... But still no power to the front wheels.

I agree with Nero, can you get someone to help and look at the linkage while they shift it in 4-hi.

Should be able to do it with the engine off, in neutral and use body weight to rock it. Slight incline can help.

Then if it isn’t engaging, try manually engaging it under the pickup to find where the problem lies.

I bet it’s the linkage.

Or leave hubs in free position, put t case in 4 hi or 4 lo, then try to turn front driveline by hand. Make sure transmission is in gear. It shouldnt move if all is good.

Not to get too far off-topic but folks really ought to educate themselves about Soviet Communism and the Stalinist dictatorship that followed before comparing it to anything else--Stalin also purged the government and military of anyone who might be less than blindly obedient or dare to stand in his way. History doesn't repeat itself but it does rhyme.

Dry road - put it in 4-hi - turn hard right/left -- if it bucks, grabs, jerks while going forward in the turn -- it's workin'

Yup, this right here. Just don't do it if loaded heavy because this puts strain on the axles.

Verified the tcase shifts when actuated by lever. It appears the front driveshaft will turn with tcase in 4Hi and hubs Free, trans in gear. Front driveshaft does not spin with tcase in 4Hi, hubs locked, and trans in gear

Interesting
So try stopping the front driveshaft from spinning CAREFULLY while in gear hubs unlocked.

WARNING this act will result in serious injury or death....

You’re forwarned

Sound familiar...

This rig doesn't have auto lock hubs right?!
Also get it in low range.
Unless something is wrong inside the tcase there's little way the hubs are disengaging the tcase..
No way that makes sense.
Keep digging.
