Tech Line Ceramic Coatings

Well, I'm ready to apply the Tech Line Cermaic coatings CBX to my piston tops....... They wont sell it to me because I'm not a dealer and it needs to be baked in an oven that isn't used for food!!! So, they give me 3 places that will apply it for me. Gees, the first and closet place wants $40.00 per piston... The second wants $135.00 for all 8 pistons..... So I will be getting them back in 7 to 10 days... Then its out to be balanced and finally to assemble it all AGAIN... I sure hope my luck holds out till I'm over 80 should I last that long..... If not this is for all those that have dun me rong....

Well at least once you get it all figured out it will be easier for the rest of us.

I'm thinking you could put together a manual complete with pics on blueprint, detail, specs, and modifications for these engines while doing a rebuild. I know I'd buy one.

They will only sell the retail water based coatings, that is what I used. CBC I think and the dry film graphite coating

Yes, Assembling a manual with pics is something that everyone could learn from or just enjoy reading or looking at the pics. I will be looking at doing that. I did some pics the first time of all the port work but that was some time back. The assembly of these motors is the same as any other motor. You do lots of checking and torqueing and when your done "things" should be correct and you have a safe running motor. Like in my case I had someone that didn't have the correct tool to install the freeze plugs and they installed brass material. Wrong on both counts. I feel I have the best I can have now. I had a set of stainless steel installed with the correct tool and I watched. Then I pressure tested the coolant side of the block to 35 lbs. All plugs were checked with Snoop Leak Detector. No leaks found. Also I had a low coolant sensor installed in the upper radiator tank. Now to see what happens next.

Low coolant sensor? Great idea! Where did you get this? Is it a universal thing, or was it taken from something else and "made to work"?

The low coolant sensor is found in the Ford Escorts. I found mine in the pick-a-part wrecking yard. Turned out it was free because it fits in my pocket... I do give them plenty-o-money when I'm in there. I use them for all those parts you loose when your doing something like dash work. When Banks installed my Sidewinder years ago they broke the vacuum manifold found on the firewall. Ford doesn't stock or sell it anymore. So I went to the wrecking yard and found the big Mercurys and Fords have the same item so I bought several. Just look for things on the Ford line and you probably will find they put things in several differant cars and trucks...

ok cool, I figured it was an add-on from something else. How is it wired? The sensor just complets the circut when the coolant is low right? I know I have stuff like this hideing in the shop somewhere.

Ironman... My motor is not in the truck yet so I'm waiting on some water in the radiator to set it up. I plan on installing a red flashing lite in the Isspro temp gage on the dash and a buzzer. This system will incorperate the oil pressure, trans temp too. Hear the buzzer... Look for the blinking red lites . Pull over before its too late......

Ceramic coated pistons? Is that to handle higher EGTs or something?

A whole bunch of the Rangers had float switches in the oil pans as well. I thought that was a great idea--I'd rather see a "low oil" light before I saw a "low oil pressure" light.
