Brought home a 92 7.3 idi last evening. He noted the tach would just go to zero at lower rpms which could cause issues when in 3rd and 4th gear. As I drove it home I saw it would just drop off to zero when I let off the fuel. Is this a sensor issue of some type or am I in for a lot of work?

Probably the tach sensor is dirty. Remove it and clean off the magnetic base that picks up the metal teeth on the gear. If that does not fix it search ebay for this part. Bet you can find it cheaper than 160 bucks.

Got it out and cleaned it, it made no difference. Amazon wanted 66 for it, the auto parts place wanted 130. Wow.

Thanks guys. So far I am loving the truck.
