I saw a post somewhere talking about doing dumb things...welp I got one here! Coming home the other night from a neighboring county on the interstate with the whole family in the truck my front tank is getting ready to suck fumes so I try switching tanks...nothing! Hmm that's strange I don't think I used up both tanks...try it again and again and again still nothing! Luckily the next exit has a truck stop and I try filling the front tank...overflows immediately. :***: I always use the front first then the back...hmm then I put 10 in the back. So I figure I got the ole broken tank switch - well we head out again and I remember I had the dash apart about 3 weeks ago when I was messing with the headlight switch. Hmm...yup sure enough the tank switch just won't work if you don't have the electrical connector hooked up!!

That's a good one Eric. I once watched a "technician" spray either on a coil on an 86' Ranger (to dry it out? ) and then try to crank it with the plug wire pulled out. Funny how that little electric arc set all that either on fire, and nearly burned the truck to the ground.

I was coming home late last night with my new truck. My new truck is a king cab unlike my old one. I"ve never owned a king cab.

I'm staying with these nice middle-aged folks whom I don't know well (they're putting me up as we're co-workers on my new job, a few hours away from where I actually live). So I was coming in really late last night and I tried to coast into the driveway so as not to wake anyone up, especially since I dont know them really well.

I stopped the truck and was unloading things out of that nice king cab back seat. I had the door open and was leaning into the truck to pick up my groceries or whatever, with the bench seat swung forward.

I climbed into the back and leaned right into the tilted-forward bench seat, which I"m not used to at all- and leaned the seat right into the horn which promptly blared loud enough to wake up the neighborhood at 2 am!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! so much for my stealth.

oh yeah, my old truck didn't have a working horn either...

I was helping my friend change a fuel tank on a 1991 f 250 with a 460 in it. He tryed to dump the gas all out but could not get it so how do u try to get the rest of the gas out? Light it on fire lucky i was cleaning my truck at the time and still close by because he singed alot of hair.

So far, the dumbest thing I've done was drop my water pump while putting the engine back together last August. I thought I had two bolts started, and found the hard way that they hadn't threaded in while I was trying to grab Bolt #3.

To exacerbate things, I hadn't put cardboard over the radiator...so the water pump lands on the ground, and about 5 seconds later, I see a line of red ELC coming from the not-completely-drained radiator... I hadn't even realized at first that the water pump had hit it. $300 later, I was good to go...

ok,I will chime in.This might not be IDI related but it is Ford Truck Related since it has a ford body and is a truck....sorta.

Wednesday night me and a couple co-workers decided to give my Little T-maxx(Nitromethane powered RC Truck.....QUICK!) another shot since it didn't want to crank tuesday after work.I adjusted the carb a little and hit it with the starter box.After fighting a little it finally fired up and ran.So,I did a couple hot laps around the parking lot and got some good speed.Rounding a buddy of mines PSD I suddenly lost control.It just idled along with no response from the controller.As I was walking towards it it suddenly started to respond again.So I decided to do a ****** loop and bring it to me instead of me going to it....well,I got about a quarter of a turn and suddenly the engine went WOT and I realized-it wouldn't respond to the transmitter......OH *Censored*........As that little 2.5CC engine wound out to around 50,000RPM it hit second gear........NOT GOOD!.......at around 40MPH it came to a sudden and disasterous stop as it encountered an imovable object called a fence pole.40-0 in 0.01 seconds does not bid well for plastic parts.Needless to say,They gonna love me at the hobby shop saturday!2 broke bulk heads,broke engine mount(mind you,Rear engine truck!Talk about sudden stop!),broke the fuel tank when the engine shifted forward,Broke the drive gear on the input shaft of the tranny,I think I killed the tranny since it just free wheels now(but I know 2 gears are still good since there are 3 shafts and the top one turns the middle but not the bottom),and only God knows what else I am gonna find when I tear into it.The brand new billet aluminum Texas bumper did it's job even though it did clear the top of a tree after impact.Not sure if the electronics are still good.......I hope so but can't test since the problem that caused all this was 4 AA batteries!They died and the servo was locked out.

My friends (shopmates actually) do the Power Tool Drag Races event that was on Discovery Channel recently. Hopefully you guys know what I"m talking about- it's two racetracks made of plywood/2X4's and you make mini-racers out of power tools, race them two at a time, and time the speeds. Basically the only rule is that a power tool has to be involved.

In years past, one of my shopmates did a test run of an 'unguided missle'- a mini-propane can with a Remington nailer at one end. You nail the propane can and it goes SAILING from the pressure release.

In the test run, though, it didn't go in a straight line- it shot across the yard, hit the building at the other end, turned around and started jumping around in random directions hittings things still at full speed. It eventually hit it's inventor (I guess he was laughing too hard to run away) and he was on crutches for a while with an enormous bruised shin that didn't work too good.

This story doestn' count though since I wasnt' there. I dont' do dumb things. wait, was it me that said that?

One of the activities at the IDI weekend is campground tractor pulls. I'd love to pit the Micro Moose (E-maxx with a Moose Truck look alike body on it) against your T-maxx. Not to hijack this thread, and back on topic, I'd have to say torqing a rocker arm bolt to some astronomical torque wasn't very bright. I spent a good bit of time getting the snapped off bolt out the first time around with head gaskets on the Moose Truck.

Stupid is...

Well…
On Sunday I took my truck and rented a tow dolly to get the Rabbit. I spent the rest of the day cutting down 5 trees at my bro-in-law’s place. Ate dinner and got to my house at 9:00 pm. I was beat and I needed to unload the VW so I could return the dolly in the morning. I pulled to the end of the road which is an uphill incline. I figured I could unhook the Rabbit and let gravity coax it into its parking place.

I unhooked everything and gave my self some slack on the cable attached to the hand winch. Got my wife to help me give the rabbit a couple pushes to get it out of the wheel holders and started down the ramp, knowing full well the cable would catch in about two feet. As the car took off down the ramps, my wife and I fall face first onto the tow dolly. The car never stopped. Hmm…The winch handle is free spinning big time. I reach down to grab it. Whack! Hmmm. That hurt… My wife screaming now puts her foot into the handle and stops the car.

I guess it was not locked is all I could say. Her bruises will heal (I think) and I am pretty sure my index finger is fractured…

10+ years ago a used to work for an a-hole making excavator attachments, one day at lunch i discovered reverse went out on my 67 f250 and i got stuck parking nose first down hill in a spot next to a-holes new bmw, after work i got the forklift lifted the rear and pulled my truck out of the spot (assuming it was in park, turned out to be a linkage prob.) when i set it down it promtly coasted down and wasted the side of a-holes bmw ($7800 damage if i remember)
i went and told a-hole, he was reasonable at first i gave him my ins info but about 10 mins later he went off and had to be restrained (he's small and im not) as he was being held back he told my i was fired and called me every name in the book, i laughed at him, witch at that piont was gas on the fire.
days later my ins called and wanted to know what happened, i told them i didnt have a clue but i had lost my ins card and registration about a week before :Sly told them they were welcome to look at my truck to verify that it hadint been in an accedent(it was my outward turned drivers tire that did the damage) i never heard any more of it! as it turns out getting out of that co. was the one of the better things thats happened to me, allthough ive always considederd myself as a honest person ive never had any regrets about what happened or how i handled it.

I'm not sure if I'll be over in that neck of the woods anytime soon, unfortunately. I was supposed to do a biodiesel tour this summer but work popped up- so if I go on the road for a tour it'll be shorter and mostly the West... sorry!
