steering pump kit

The one on my truck is making noise for a while so I guess is going bad, now I recall someone posted about a rebuild kit for the steering pump so please correct Me if I'm wrong.

There are rebuild kits for steering boxes, I've never seen one for a power steerign pump. You should be able to get a reman pump pretty cheap at any auto parts store.

Napa has a cast iron style replacement for our ford aluminum pumps, dont know the number offhand but it solves a lot of noise problems on our equipment. There is a big picture of it in thier Power Steering reman book.

me thinks the cast iron replacement is the old style pump--will maybe bolt right into the bracket--the pulleys will switch--but--the pressure hose has to be changed--the fitting end to the pump is diff--

The one they supply has a fitting to mate up with the ford hose and the shaft is longer for the pulley, there is also a cast adapter bracket on it so it bolts right up.

My original pump finally quit after 230K. Went to Napa and got a new one (don't believe it to be the heavy duty one mentioned, just direct replacement). That one lasted about 3 months til it failed due to internal check valve. Took it back and got it replaced under warranty. That one lasted five weeks. Changing pumps and bleeding steering was getting a little old now. At the advise of a few here, I sprang for a Ford pump and high pressure line (almost $300!). It's been three months and so far so good. Just my .02...I do a lot of business with Napa, but I wouldn't buy another Napa PS pump.

That is exactly why we went with the heavy duty one the standard replacement doesnt seem to like to be rebuilt. There is just a couple companies that get it right ford and Checker, Shucks, Kragen , have the same pump rebuilder. I think napa goes with the best deal , for them anyway. quality be damned.
