S P L I N E S.....the grooves you qre describing are referred to as ..... S P L I N E S....
what splines are you referring to...the ones inside the wheel hub?
Then if the one I posted link to doesnt fit which it should...maybe because YOU HAVE A NON STOCK SETUP YOU MAY WANT TO TRY A MUCH MORE ROBUST APPROACH AND HAMMER AND PUNCH.
Stock spindle nuts work correctly with the tools we have shown. If yours is something other than stock...which it appears to be...no out the door tool in my opinion will work correctly.
Make a tool and be happy or take this rig to a 4wd specialist who may have a custom socket to fit.

Yes splines are what I meant. Had a million things on my mind and couldnt remember the word. I have looked into making my own tool. A little time consuming, but should work great. I have also found sockets that will work, but looking for one within a reasonable price.

IIRC the Dana 50 should have 30 spline outer axle shafts. In your picture I only count 19 which would make it a D44 HD axle.

Also those appear to be a standard ford ratchet style spindle nut, which take the standard 4 prong dana 44 socket.

See i considered 44 or 44hd but insistant on 50 is he.

As for lockin nut I couldt recall cause seen this on sterlings but never front axle..however late 87/88 was zime feakasaurus stuff iirc.

All 44 and 44hd I personally work or have worked on all had normal nuts not locking but something in memory said 1 oddball year ....but cannot say for certain...

Also d50/60 socket not fitting in hub says 44 hd too as expressed previously

Thanks

The Dana 44 socket would not fit at all. Its teeth would not go into the holes no matter what I did. It was just to small.

Take a tape measure and measure the diameter of the locking hub for us please.

I cant until at least Saturday if not Thanksgiving. I am working 2.5 hours away from the house and living out of a motel. I can tell you though that the Warn lockers I got for a Dana 50 fit perfectly.

I am thinking I have some sort of Ford voodoo product.

How do you figure? The issue is yet to be resolved and people are helping me. Just because your stuff is good doesnt mean everyone else's is. And after I get it resolved I will be posting back here with the fix.
